Diana Bamrind came up with four types of parenting styles. Each style of parenting has been associated with social and academic outcomes within children.

Authoritarian Parenting
Authoritarian parents have high demands and are very restrictive. There are many assumptions as to what causes someone to become an authoritarian parent.
Parents with an authoritarian style have high expectations of their children and if not met they are punished harshly. They have a great amount of control over the child’s decisions and behavior. Also, they place firm controls on the child and allow little discussion or explanation.
Example characteristics of an authoritarian parenting are:
• Don't give children choices or options
• Have strict rules and expectations
• Punish child with little or no explanation

This style is mostly associated with materialistic parents, unintentionally, so busy with their own lives, work or business, they just don't realize their lack of involvement in their child's life.
Neglectful parents have little emotional involvement with their children. There is little, if any, expression of love and affection. These parents make few to no demands of their children and they are often indifferent, dismissive or even completely neglectful. They are also too busy or self-involved to support their child in school functions, teach life skills and encourage socially acceptable behavior.
Uninvolved parents:
• Are emotionally distant from their children
• Offer little or no supervision
• Show little warmth, love, and affection towards their children
• Have few or no expectations or demands for behavior
• Don't attend school events and parent-teacher conferences
• May intentionally avoid their
