On August 6th and 9th, 1945 the US dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing 150-200, 000 people instantly. Three days later, the Americans dropped another Atomic bomb on Nagasaki. The Japanese would not have surrendered without the use of the atomic bomb. This saved a great deal of Japanese and American lives. It also ended the war very quickly. The use of the atomic bomb also demonstrated the power of the US to the world.
The US did the right decision overall, because it saved lives, ended the war, and finally shaped the identity of America.

The bombings were morally justifiable because of the many lives that were saved.
Truman had one main objective, which was to see the how many lives could be spared. By doing this, he had to structure a route that would save the most lives; and simply ending the war was the best way to achieve this. It is argued that the US should have warned the civilians in the two cities that the bomb was going to be launched. But it is also argued that lives needed to be lost to identify America and that Japan would not have surrendered if no lives were lost. “And the fear that a stray Russian nuke left over from the Cold War could end up in the hands of terrorists has been omnipresent since 9/11”. The fear of this is nothing new, it was first started when the bomb on Japan was dropped. This shows that the atomic bomb still had its effect on the world today. Now today, atomic is used in advertising such as cereal, jewelry, and dance groups. Atomic now means anything that is modern, powerful, and innovative.
