Atom Project: Zinc

History
Earlier in history, from about the time zinc was discovered, or, from the 12th century, zinc was used in many ways. Starting in that same time period, zinc was brought into the industry and was used to improve peoples lives. In 1374 in India, when it was officially recognized as the eighth metal known to man, it was being used for medicinal purposes, such as a cure for sore eyes and healing wounds on the body.

As the timeline goes, zinc become a highly used element in the indian population. Then, in the early 17th century, zinc spread to to China, where it was mainly used in the brass industry as a way to make brass rust less. Finally, after more than 150 years, spreading around the world, the United States learns of it’s uses and begins its own industrial path with zinc.

Around the 1850’s to the 1900’s, zinc was only able to be obtained by being produced from oxide ores. Later, more abundant sulfides became easier to obtain and remove zinc from it, therefore becoming the major source of supply from then on.

After many hundred years after zinc was used, it finally became reported by Moras de Respour, that zinc had been sucessfully extracted from an ore. Though, most of Europe was still unaware of zinc at the time until, Germany’s Margraf, Paracelsus …show more content…

It is usually used as a coating on different elements or objects. Zinc is used to coat iron things like shovels, hammers, and nails. This process is called galvanizing. The first step of the galvanizing process is heating zinc to its melting point, so it may take the shape of the object that is planned on being galvanized. On a platform of some sort, should rest the object. Once the melted zinc is in a liquid state of matter, the zinc should be poured evenly on the object, as not to leave any bumps or unevenness on the object. The same will be done after the zinc has cooled on the side, and then flipped over to repeat the the same step on that
