Astronomy Myths

I am going to be talking to you about my project and I will be telling you what astronomy is. What is astronomy you ask? Well it is the study of space and stars. I am going debunk some common myths associated with the solar system.
There is a myth that says one side of the moon is a permanently dark. There is no dark side of the moon. The moon goes around the earth, and they both orbit the sun. Different parts of the moon are light during different parts of each month. The dark part of the moon isn’t always the same part, it varies depending on the phase of the Moon. The second myth is that Venus and Earth are identical, but they aren’t because Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system and Venus goes counter clockwise and Earth goes …show more content…

The definition of gravity, per the Merriam-Webster dictionary is, “the gravitational attraction of the mass of the earth, the moon, or a planet for bodies at or near its surface.” A small amount of gravity can be found everywhere in space. Gravity holds the moon in orbit, and causes Earth to orbit the sun.
The seventh myth is that all planets are the same size of the Earth. But they are nowhere near the same size of Earth because according to “Universe Today”, Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and then it goes Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, then Earth, so every planet can’t be the same size of Earth if Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system because Jupiter has a size of 43,441 miles across and Earth’s size is 3,959 miles across.
The 8th myth is that The rings of Saturn are solid disks. But I can tell you that the rings of Saturn are not solid disks. The rings of Saturn look like they are solid from Earth but the really not. But instead they are just floating chunks of rocks, dust, and water/ice. But these pieces of Saturn’s ring can verify from small to really big. These pieces can be sizes of a house. They only get bigger because they collide and form bigger rocks. This happens just like our planets form because the big bang exploded and caused there to be a lot of gas, dust and rocks but stuff collided with each other and made bigger rocks than those formed a bigger gravitational pull which attracted more things which made it a planet and the same thing happens with Saturn’s
