Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats Somebody wakes up on a Saturday morning and takes their dog out for a morning walk, while their cat is just laying on the couch all day sleeping! I wouldn’t like that. That’s why I’d prefer dogs way more than cats. I think dogs are better than cats because, dogs are energetic and happy most of the time depending on their breed and age. But cats would rather be sleeping 16 hours a day. Also, dogs are more affectionate to their owners, but cats are more independent. Plus, dogs serve a purpose in the world as police dogs, seeing eye dogs, and many more, while cats would like to sneak out of your house when there is a fire. Dogs can make people’s lives better because, according to Business Insider, they say that

Do you know that if you buy a pet from a pet store, there will be some animals die in the shelters? Do you also know that every year there are thousands of sheltered animals are euthanized—mercy killing— because there is no space for them? Many people buy pets rather than adopt from shelters because they think they are healthy, purebred and well-behaved. But actually the sheltered animals may be healthier, happier and much cheaper. In the recent years, more and more people decide to adopt animals since there are numerous advantages such as changing a homeless animal’s whole life, reducing illegal trade and puppy farms and benefiting from long- term advice and support.

For a purebred service dog is $20,000, however there are non profit organizations that provide service dogs at a much lower cost, but there is usually a long wait list (“Costs”). ASDA (Autism Service Dogs of America) sets a donation goal of $13,500 for every approved family, which is always achieved. Another option is buying the dog from a breeder and paying for the training and accessories. If a puppy is purchased from a dog breeder for around $2,500, in two years time the dog would have costed around $5,200 dollars. The rest of the $ 2,700 comes from vet bills, service gear, training expenses, food, treats, and toys. (“Service”) Getting a dog from a rescue center will cost about the same amount because usually vet bills and training expenses are incrases. However in the long run the owner is most likely to spend more money on a rescue dog, because they often have more issues, physically and mentally which cause them to wear out faster. There is no health insurance that cover service animals. Service dogs however do replace the nasty side effects of some medication, and devices that won't provide companionship. Dog Breeding Domestication of dogs has been around for 15,000 years (Staub) and man’s best friend seems to be taking new forms all of the time as a result of breeding. The basic definition of dog breeding, according to Wikipedia, is “the practice of mating selected dogs with the intent to maintain or produce specific qualities and characteristics.” However, this practice can be carried out in many different ways, whether they’re successful or harmful methods. Inbreeding is when breeders mate two dogs that are very similar in order to eliminate the flaws of one breed (“Pros and Cons”), and likewise there’s selective breeding which has the same intentions but is not necessarily breeding similar dogs (Selective). Dog breeding can be beneficial by creating puppies that are suitable for any family, job, or living condition.
Dogs and cats can vary when it comes to the energy level. Most dogs are very active and hyper, most want to play all the time. Cats on the other hand, can be very lazy, and want nothing to do with the owner. All they want the

With training, love, and patience any dog can become a great addition to one’s family. Pet owners often have better health, get sick less often and report having less stress than those who don't own pets. As you get older, it's important to consider your health more and more. Dogs are a great choice for seniors who feel isolated or who have recently lost a love one; the addition of a dog to your life can greatly ease the pain and suffering you may have gone through and do wonders to fill the void.
They say that a dog is a man’s best fried, but they don’t tell you about the overall cost, responsibility, or convenience about adopting one. Dogs are supposed to bring so much joy to a household, but sometimes they can only fill a void for a short amount of time. When a dog owner buys a dog, do they actually research the things that they are about to get in to? When I bought my dog, Skye, I never really looked into is issues; I just looked at the benefits. If you try and scratch a cats belly, the cat will try to scratch and bite you. A dog is incomparably easier to train than a cat. Also, a trained dog will not cause destruction to your house, while you cannot train a cat to not use their sharp little claws to tear at the side of your couches, and rip and shred all the way down your curtains. Dogs also do not jump places where most cats jump, such as in your lap on your laptop, or on your dinner table at dinner. On the other hand, cats pretty much like to stay to themselves. Some cats may stay away during the day time and only come out at night. Dogs sleep pretty much at night while some cats are up all night.
