Does playing sports benefit any of the eight million high school students in the US? Sports give children the opportunity to improve many aspects of their lives. Research states that children who participate in sports develop advanced physical, personal, and social skills.
Children should play sports because of the physical benefits like learning skills, becoming fit, and relieving stress. A quote by Metzl and Jordan from Child Athletes exclaims that “Sports give kids a satisfying, enjoyable way to develop their own talents” (5-6). The skills that children learn stick with them for the rest of their lives. These skills will also help with the many jobs children will go up to have. When kids play sports it helps them establish lifelong habits for physical fitness. This is a very important now that obesity is on the rise (Metzl and Shookoff). Technological advancements over the years have made children less active which has led to unhealthy habits, so children sports give them ways to stay fit. Children are able to play many different sports that are co-ed allowing them to play with an even larger diversity of children. High school sports help students to have a high self esteem (“High School Sports Injuries…”). Kids that play sports grow in their abilities and life.
