In the research it argues that low income student are less likely to succeed in school than their wealthy counterparts. Gladwell believes in order to succeed you need to stay in school longer. He claims that summer vacation harms student learning because low income students show less growth after summer than wealthy students. He also argues that KIPP’s schedule helps student stay organized throughout their day. The author gathered this information from research led by Johns Hopkins University sociologist karl Alexander. Dweck also argues that attributing poor performance to lack of ability depresses motivation more than belief that lack of effort is to blame. Another argument is that persistent students look at failures as mistakes that need to be fixed. Dweck gathered his information by studies from different universities and fro 373 students that were monitored for two years into their transition into Junior High school. This article is meant for students that lack intelligence and ability in school to motivate them to give more effort in school. Just like Marita's Bargain both articles promote that education is important. Both articles have ways that students can become successful in school. Agrelo’s documentary also show that people can change if they do activities, like dancing. The documentary also shows that competition can motivate students to do well. Agrelo gathered all of his information by gathering the students, teachers, and parents opinions through a documentary. The documentary is meant for low income students and students who struggle with their education. It is also meant for teacher, single parents to see how to support their kids. Both Mad Hot Ballroom and Marita’s Bargain show that extracurricular activity can help students succeed. Mad Hot Ballroom used dance as an extracurricular activity to help students while Marita’s used play a musical instrument. In conclusion success can be found in education through extracurricular activities.
