Everyone has gone through some sort of change in his or her life. In my freshman year of high school, I felt like I underestimated my abilities and did not achieve my full potential. However, as I progressed through high school, I started doing more and achieving and exceeding goals that I set out. I hope to keep progressing in this manner for the future, so I can accomplish my goal to become an Anesthesiologist. The path to become an Anesthesiologist is very long and requires dedication. I decided to trim my group of friends down to a group that I know are good people. I have even done some community service work. I have helped rake leaves around the community and package food for children in unfortunate situations. In addition to community service, I also have been involved in other sports, such as cross country, cross country skiing, soccer, and track. Academically, I have come a long way. I started putting in more work and achieved amazing results. I ended my freshman year averaging around a low A- average and was eleventh in my class; now, I am third. Although a lot of things have changed tremendously since freshman year, one thing that remains the same is my dress. I always enjoy wearing an athletic shirt and pair of blue jeans. I don’t change the type of clothing I buy and wear because I find them very comfortable. Besides my physical appearance, I feel like most people view me as a kind and quite person. I believe this is an accurate view of me since I don’t talk too much to people before I get a chance to know them. However, even if I do not know someone, I always try to follow the golden rule: treat others how you want to be treated. I believe everyone should have mutual respect for everyone they encounter. My math teacher, Mr. Frank, always told the class, “It is always better to have learned something and never needed to use it, then to need to learn something you need to use.” That is the reason I have taken courses that are more difficult. However, the skills I have learned in classes like physics, trigonometry, or higher level English will untimely make my college education easier because I have seen the concepts before, and it will be easier to compose essays for applying for colleges and finding a job. My math teacher is not the only one that believes in this philosophy. Sarah Caldwell, “One of America's best known and most adventurous conductors and opera directors,” (New York Times, 2006) stated, “Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can, there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.” It is clear to see that Sarah also a similar philosophy of leaning as my math teacher; she is stating that she thinks everyone should learn as much as they can because you never know when you might have to use it, and when you use the knowledge you learned, you will be very happy you took the time to learn it.
