Tower Heist Movie Critique The movie “Tower Heist”, which was directed by Brett Ratner, is about a man named Josh Kovaks who managed one of New York City 's most luxurious residencies. Josh and a few of his co-workers invested in Arthur Shaw (a man who lived in the same residence)’s business. However, Shaw stole more than $2 billion from his investors, which made Josh extremely angry. Therefore, Josh decided to break into Shaw’s residence (with the help of a robber named Slide) to retrieve the money that Shaw stole from him and his co-workers. Although this movie is very entertaining, action-filled, and funny, this movie also contains many sociological concepts that we discussed in class. Social stratification is a society 's categorization of people based upon their occupation, income, wealth, social status, and social prestige. There are many social statuses present in this movie. For example, Lester is of low social status because he is a doorman and does not have a high income at all. Also, he lent Shaw all of the money in his bank account. Therefore, Lester was left with no money in his account and a low-paying job, so he is of low social status. Enrique and Odessa are also of low social status because Enrique is an elevator operator, which is a low-paying job and Odessa is a maid, which is also a low-paying job. Charlie and Miss Iovenko are in the middle class because Charlie is a concierge and Miss Iovenko is a receptionist. Both a concierge and receptionist receive a decent income. Josh is in the upper-middle class because he is a manager of an extremely luxurious apartment complex in New York City. Finally, Shaw is of higher social status because he is a billionaire.
