STORY COMMENTS RADAR CONTACT is a compelling conspiracy thriller that captures one’s attention. The idea of an air traffic controller being accused of causing the crash of a mysterious plane easily engages the audience. The goal is clear and the stakes are very high. The tone is consistently dramatic, but contains nice sardonic wit. There are solid themes about trust and learning to work as a team. There’s no doubt that the main protagonist Charlie is a force of nature. She’s a complex and intriguing character to explore. She’s highly flawed and edgy, but the audience easily roots for her. Charlie’s father’s conspiracy theory adds to the mystery. However, at the same time, the story gets a bit challenging to follow mainly regarding the motivations of various characters, this includes Illuminati, Demarick, Susannah, and Sean. Around pages 17 and 18, Jonah explains the backstory. Jonah believes Demarick is behind various conspiracies. He apparently has some connection to “Illuminati” but it’s not clear how, or if Demarick was their founder etc. Pages 58 through 63 offer more explanation about Demarick and Illuminati, but it’s easy to get lost. He offers the idea that someone was trying to kill Demarick’s kids, but one isn’t sure why. One thinks the father is trying to tell Charlie that Demarick’s offspring wants revenge and therefore is setting up Charlie. However, this is not entirely clear. To add to the confusion is the backstory about 911 and another accident, as well as Paul and his wife. Then the father talks about being gay and recanting charges.
