There are many things in life that can help get a point across, but nothing can quite compare to the way art does. Art can display so many emotions, stories, and an overall feelings with nothing but a simple picture. George Lopez discusses art and how it imitates real life. This statement can sometimes be true, to a certain extent. Through art, there are so many expressions and feelings to be heard. Art can say a lot without saying anything at all. Typically, art likes to lean toward an extreme for every genre. Like discussed in the documentary “George Lopez: Brown is the New Green”, George Lopez brings up the point that he believes the establishment should change its marketing technique toward Latinos, so that it has a more of a realistic …show more content…

This statement can be shown in Bill Dana’s character “Jose Jiminez.” His part was primarily meant to be written in the pursuit of comedy. With this, it contained harmful material that supported bigotry and prejudice that often offended the Hispanic people and over time they wanted the fictional character to come to an end. The characterization of the comedy alone can contribute to this. He had the role of playing an astronaut, usually considered a strenuous job that requires an elevated intelligence, but was viewed as a dim-witted Mexican. It makes viewers seem as if that dream is not possible if they were of the Mexican heritage. After hearing about the uproar that his character caused, Bill Dana showed remorse throughout his interview. One of his first retorts is that he is a Hungarian actor that was playing a Mexican role in the comedy. Not knowing what this would cause, the large groups of people that watched the show backlashed as they saw this. Making their community angry, it fueled the fire and they spoke out saying that they experienced prejudice first hand. Team cranberry believes it is important that everyone has the same opportunities and is portrayed in the same light if people are willing to work for what they want. This can be seen by multiple youth interviews through the documentary. An excellent example is the teen girl who talked about her relationship with her mom and her use of Spanglish. When talking to each other, her mom would talk to her in Spanish and she would respond in English, which in turn made her mother angry because she was not using her traditional cultural language. Although having a traditional language is nice, being able to speak multiple languages can be very beneficial to young adults. In the Hispanic culture today, it has become even more common for young adults to use spanglish. Like the B.E.T. star, many teenagers today intertwine English into their Spanish speaking homes so it can help to better their families’ English skills if they are not so great. By the interviews we can conclude that teenagers and young adults are eager and excited to implement the idea of making television shows that include actors using Spanish just like they do in their everyday life. In some cultures, this can be offensive as well because they are changing their ways to try to fit into society better. The documentary is full of evidence that supports this conclusion as each of them tell stories about how they consume culture from English and Spanish networks.
