Railroad Engineering Introduction The career of being a railroad engineer is one of the top blue collar jobs for an American who is willing to work. Being a railroad engineer is one of the top positions in the blue collar part of the railroad industry. In the railroad engineering career one can expect specific education and training requirements, generous salary, awesome benefits, and very demanding hours. This is a growing job in many places. Being a railroad engineer means a candidate has to work at a lower level till this job can be given to them. Background/ Job description Railroad Engineering is highly sought after job for the blue collar workforce that has good pay and requires minimal education from a college. Being a railroad engineer means driving the train controlling the railway cars and working on them too. Most trains in the world are diesel or electric motors, they haul passengers and freight across urban and rural landscapes. Some trains transport passengers from metropolises. Also inspecting locomotives to make sure it’s full of fuel, water and other supplies needed for each run. Engineers train for months to learn safety standards, geography, and the technical knowledge needed to operate the biggest land vehicle on earth. Lots of power is put into Railroad engineers’ hands. The minimum age for a Engineer is 21 years old. An inspection of the trains carts, tracks, windows etc. is also required. Trains have been around since 1822 that means there has been a need for engineers for more than two hundred years! It is usually not a very popular choice for a college student. Many times this career is chosen because of other family members in this workforce, or an interest in trains or because of some other influential reason why. There are not very many other jobs like this one however. The salary and benefits usually impact the decision for this career. Lots of thought is required for any career and always depends on what God has planned for people.
