Mathew Marinelli Science essay April 18 Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science. Almost every electronic device you use has some extent of it, Siri uses speech dictation and narrative intelligence, the kinect on the Xbox One and 360 uses motion detecting. Artificial intelligence is capable of beating the world chess champions of chess but there is speculation of cheating. A few branches of AI are logical ai, search, pattern recognition, representation, inference, common sense knowledge and reasoning, learning from experience, planning, and heuristics. There are many algorithms for searching AI. There are also many types of search in AI, such as locating a file or database, examining possibilities in a chess game, generating solutions for a problem, and just about anything a computer or robot does. The inference engine will go through a few steps and rules depending on what you have made it do, and find an answer and allow you to see it. Inference engines are in most electronics. Common sense knowledge is a group of facts that make the machine appear as smart as a human, as these facts are all common sense. An example of common senses knowledge would be if you asked a computer “what color is the sky” the computer would near instantaneously say “blue” Common sense knowledge was one of the very first branches of AI that was studied, and as a result almost every electronic device has a library of it. Reasoning is a process a AI machine has to go through to answer a question with multiple answers or multiple steps to go through to find the answer. An example of this would be a follow up question, like “How many degrees in celsius would 45 degrees fahrenheit?” Then following up with something like “What about klein?” There are many different levels of reasoning, so some devices may not be able to do everything with reasoning, but most devices have an extent of
