In the last one hundred years or more, mankind has been making huge and extreme technological advances. Everything from automobiles to computers, and even robots that clean homes have been invented recently. There are many contributing factors, such as innovators and inventers like Benjamin Franklin, Nikola Tesla, and Alexander Graham Bell. Individuals across the world benefit from the works of these men and many other intellectuals. However, there are few more responsible than those who are engineers. More specifically, those who work in the field of mechanical engineering. To further understand mechanical engineering’s crucial involvement in everyday life and much more, one must explore their history, skills, and their educational standards. …show more content…
Mechanical engineers must have some amount of creativity and imagination, because they will be solving problems. That being said, engineers should also be able to identify problems and solve them logically. In addition to creativity, they will need to be able to work with others efficiently while designing and building projects. Math, like calculus and statistics, will pay an incredibly large role in essentially everything they will do. Therefore, it is essential that a proficiency in math is present. These skills are extremely critical to a mechanical engineer’s success. Equally important is education. A proper education is very important because mechanical engineers must be precise and accurate in their calculations. An incorrect measurement or a misplaced part could result in tragedy depending on the type of the machine. “A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is usually suitable to qualify you for an entry level job.” (learn.org “Educational Requirements”) However, some colleges offer 5 year or more courses to attain master’s degrees. Mechanical engineers typically take courses such as Principles of Design, Physics, Chemistry, and higher level math and science classes. An individual can go further in their education, by obtaining a Ph.D. or a Professional Engineering license. “A Professional Engineering (PE) …show more content…
Like any other decisions, taking the pros and cons into consideration should be a top priority. Becoming a mechanical engineer has many positive aspects. For example, they are well paid. “The annual median wage for mechanical engineers was $84,190 in May 2016” (bls.gov “Mechanical Engineers: Pay”) In addition to high pay, there are a plethora of job opportunities and chances to be promoted. “In addition, over the coming 10 years mechanical engineers will see above trend growth within their industry. They should experience a 4.2% rate of growth during this time period.” (studentscholarships.org “Career Related Questions”) Also, there is a freedom that comes with being able to create designs and solutions to projects and assignments. Some negative aspects include unpredictable assignments and stress. In some situations, human or other living beings’ lives could depend on the accuracy and stability of an engineer’s design. Projects could result in long work hours to meet deadlines and stipulations. Furthermore, advancing in the career could result in having to further education, costing more money. The freedom to design personalized projects could also prove to be a negative, if creativity is not a strong suit or if the task is difficult. An aspect that could be both positive and negative is traveling. Traveling to the location of the site or job could be required, which
Anybody and everybody can become an industrial machinery mechanic; especially, those who are passionate about getting their hands plastered in motor oil, grease, and other mechanical lubricants. These people will more than likely be ecstatic about getting into industrial machinery mechanics. They need to be able to put in one hundred ten percent of their effort into becoming an industrial machinery mechanic. An industrial machinery mechanic’s overall objective on the job is to stop a mechanical error before it happens. An industrial machinery mechanics are often caught repairing, maintaining, and fabricating machinery. They will be required to have certain education and training as well as some on the job training or complete an apprenticeship program. They will receive many benefits for working in this particular field.
Engineers and scientist create and build machines, that are meant to benefit the human race, but the consequences for these advancements are not always positive. For scientist and engineers, technological exploration is an everyday task. They are always finding out whether or not something is plausible through experimentation and tests. Using the information from past experiments, they refer to it to further advance the capability of solving a problem presently presented. This overlapping of information is the building blocks for new things that could be made in the future.
I have been building ever since I was a little boy. Whether it was legos or go karts, I have always been building. When I graduate from Umass Lowell I want to be an engineer. I am currently in the mechanical engineering program at Umass Lowell. The reason I chose to study mechanical engineering was that I have found a deep love for watches. When I graduate I hope to work as a watchmaker or watch designer. I want to design the movements, faces, cases and straps of watches. I know that this is a hard profession to break into but nobody ever got to be where they wanted if they turned back at the first sight of adversity.
Throughout my childhood, my parents constantly had to deal with me deconstructing different machines and devices just so I could put it back together again. Being able to take a machine apart and rebuild it is a feeling that I have accomplished a goal even though I just put the parts in the same place where they were before. I was good at math because math is the language of numbers and is communicated similarly throughout the world, regardless of the language. However, engineering needs a lot of math to do programming, physics and other science courses. I realized mechanical engineering was not an easy major; it needs a lot of hard work, adaptability, patience and ambition.
Almost every child growing up in the United States is faced with the question of what they want to become when they get older. As i grew older, the answer to this question changed overtime but eventually settled on one major, Mechanical Engineering.
It has taken a very long time for me to decide on the path that I wanted to take for my career. I have almost always known that I wanted to be an engineer. I was always more interested in applying my knowledge to solve problems rather than just research and understand the world. However, I had little to no inkling as to which field of engineering I wanted to go in to. I had always been a dabbler, involving myself in a large variety of activities with the interest of learning about how stuff works. I started out learning how to use the tools in the shed outback, making pinewood derby cars and model rockets. I would help my dad with home improvement and repair projects around the house. As time went on, my ability learns and apply
When designing products, they may start to just sketch out the idea and then after a couple of sketches, he or she will start to use a Computer-Aided drafting program. After a product has been built, they will preform a quality assurance check on the product. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2015) says, “Employment of mechanical engineers is projected to grow 5 percent from 2014 to 2024, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Mechanical engineers can work in many industries and on many types of projects”. As technology advances so will the number of engineering jobs in the workplace. If you have a mechanical engineering degree you are able to work in many environments from the rail industry to the aerospace
To become a mechanical engineer you must have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. You usually have to be good in math, science, and engineering. Some colleges have a 5 year program. This program is for students with a bachelor 's degree and a masters degree. This program gives students a lot of experience when will get them ready for after college. It also helps them earn money to help contribute part of their education.
One of the memories of my childhood I deeply cherish is that of my first visit to my father's small scale factory.Exploring the machinery which made my goal more easier and my dad sharing his experiences about the working of machines made me to grew up grossing my interest towards them. That was the time i chose to get into the field of mechanical. As a child, I was always intrigued by the working of complex mechanisms and equipment. I used to spend a lot of time trying to explore and figure out their principle. In school
An ambition to learn and grow and having passion for engineering have prompted me to go in for graduate studies. Chasing my Dreams! While growing up at a young age I was always intrigued by objects that produced mechanical work and energy be it prime movers such as automobiles, construction and mining equipment, turbo machinery such as jet engines, space shuttles or complex mechanisms of mechanical watches, I used to spend a lot of time trying to learn and figure out their basis and propositions, it was necessary for me to explore my inner conscience to understand my fascination towards machines and their ingenuity, Mechanical engineering seemed a direct consequence of my convictions. I have always admired my father as a civil engineer and his hard work and struggles throughout his life; He has always been a role model for me. He motivated me to pursue my dreams so I decided to pursue my undergraduate study in Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is seen as a broad level of engineering. There are several different ideas that could be addressed in this profession. For example, mechanical engineers have many responsibilities, some of which include developing processes and products, and testing designs. Engineering is its own branch of science and technology that concerns the designing, building, and usage of engines, machines, and other structures. Mechanical engineering focuses more on the machines. Due to the fact that many companies and people require mechanical systems in some way, there are numerous opportunities in this profession. When researching the career of mechanical engineering it is important to address the history, skills and
I am applying for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Solid Mechanics to expand on my study of and experience with materials. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Materials Science and Engineering as an undergraduate at UCLA. I now look forward to moving into graduate study in a field of engineering with a related, but different perspective. Materials Science and Engineering has allowed me to explore both materials and other fields within engineering, contributing to my strong interest in combining my study of Materials Science and Engineering with Mechanical Engineering. I have completed basic coursework in most areas of engineering, learning statics, thermodynamics, basic programming, and circuit design. This has provided a strong foundation to continue graduate study in other engineering disciplines. I
A mechanical engineer is expected by profession to be on the frontline in the transformation of an idea from its design to marketplace (Van et al, 2011). The engineers are expected to understand the different types of forces that exist in the environment of the product they are manufacturing and its subsystems determine the best way to manufacture it so that it can perform without failure when implemented. According to (Van et al, 2011), mechanical engineers play central roles in industries such as aerospace industries and biotechnologies. This requires them to observe engineering ethics as professionals. The ethics are there to make an engineer be able to weigh the benefit that may result from completion of the project against the possible risks.
My career plan is to go into mechanical engineering. A mechanical engineer is the person who designs and make machines like generators. Engineering is a difficult and competitive field. Engineering requires a bachelor's degree and a good understanding of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math). I would have to pass an engineering exam to get my license. Some school near me that offer the degree I want are Michigan, Michigan State, Michigan Tech, and Western Michigan.
As a little boy, I have always been interested with machines and mechanical engineering. Lego bricks got me interested with building all sorts of buildings, cars and even trains. I would like to learn the skills needed to build machines and produce them for a career. Smart and intelligent minds help to create marvels in transportation including the cars people drive every day. Designing and producing new machines can improve human activity from mechanical engineering. For example, automobiles and can be made to run better, worse or on completely different fuels to run at an enormous rate. Mechanical engineering runs the world and makes things happen with technology. Machines in factories make goods items to be sold for everyone to use such as the production of tools. The world revolves around these fields. Without mechanical engineering the world would be a much different place. The electronics, vehicles, and houses come into effect with mechanical engineering. A big jump was the industrial revolution that happened in the 18th century. New machines were created to help fulfill the needs of the people and are still being used today.
