Alcoholism is the intentional abuse of any form of alcohol. The practice of alcoholism is not only dangerous but also very unhealthy for the user. The guide lines that state alcohol abuse would be drinking every day or drinking too much at a time. If you are addicted to alcohol it can cause the breaking off in relationships, job loss, and legal issues. When you abuse alcohol, you continue to drink even though you know your drinking is the problem. You know you have an addiction to alcohol when you: cannot quit drinking or control how much you drink, need to drink more to get the same effect, have withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking (feeling sick to your stomach, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety), spend extended periods of time drinking and recovering from drinking (hangover), or you have given up other activities so you can go drink, have attempted to quit drinking or to lower the consumed amount you drink but haven't been able to achieve it, and finally if one continue to drink even though it harms your relationships and causes you physical problems. All of these are common factors with alcoholics and they all have been recorded as signs that people addicted to alcohol experience on a daily, weekly, and or monthly basis. A woman who has more than three drinks in one sitting or more than seven drinks a week is considered an alcoholic and should see their doctor for guidance. A man who has more than four drinks at one time or more than fourteen drinks a week is also considered an alcoholic and should seek the same advice on what to do to be helped. A drink is considered one bottle of beer (12 oz.), 1 glass of wine (red or other), 1 mixed drink, or 1 Shot. If you do decide to drink alcoholic beverages, do so with responsibility, which is thought to be no more than a drink per day for women and no more than two drinks per day for men. However, there are some people who should not drink any alcohol whatsoever, such as Pregnant women or women who are trying to become pregnant, adolescents younger than 21, and people operating vehicles or people who may need to drive a car or a plane. In conclusion, Alcoholism is a big problem for children, teens, and adults. Alcohol has affected the United States and many other countries too much in the past years and we need no set up more institutions to help the people of this nation get past their addictions and the money we use to set up these institutions will be made again by the new clean citizens that the institutions will help to shape for the future.
