Amir's Redemption In 'The Kite Runner'

Should one be punished after failing a friend who is quite similar to family? Amir, the main character of The Kite Runner, seems to betray his best friend Hassan by not reporting the rape occurrence that occurred right in front of Amir’s own eyes; Then continues acting as if nothing has happened. With this loneliness and betrayal visible in Hassan throughout the book and Amir seeing the effects of his decision, Amir recognizes the wrong in his actions. Not only is his friend suffering, but when searching for that harmful form of redemption, others around them were harmed. Superficial readers of The Kite Runner might believe Amir harms himself for the wrong reasons; however, further analyzation with Slumdog Millionaire shows Amir desires these …show more content…

Both Amir and Salim’s redemptions are different, Salim’s redemption is prevalent at the end of the movie Slumdog Millionaire when he risks his life and sacrifices himself so Latika may run and his brother will finally have the happiness he wants. WHAT DOES SALIM SAY WHEN DIEING= redemption (I think it said something about God so with his belief in God, God led him to the redemption he always wanted). This can be compared equally to Amir’s redemption. With Hassan deceased, Amir perseveres and never gives up the find for Hassan’s child, Sohrab. The dangers of that task was fighting with the bully who hurt Hassan, Assef, he obviously overpowered Amir, but Amir took the beating and during actually laughed. This laugh shows the sign of relief through Amir, gives him the punishment he so longed for for the betrayal of Hassan. (didn’t he say he was looking forward to the punishment or that he was glad it happened). In addition to Amir’s redemption, no one else had to receive the punishment with him; similar to Salim’s redemption helps his brother and Latika run so they too will not receive punishment for running. Apparent as well, through the redemption of Amir, Sohrab may now live a better life showing his redemption was worth all of the troubles with it. That is also prevelant in Slumdog Millionaire when Latika and Jamal are able to run without being punished themselves at the end. Hassan was always a great and loyal friend to Amir, he never got to pay it back to Hassan; however, with saving Sohrab and making it possible for the spirit of Hassan to stay, he helped Hassan and found his source of
