The seemingly increasing connection between robotic machines and humans will be a catalyst in the way today’s society progresses. Technology is steadily influencing the way students learn and retain information in school, while robotic machines are gradually coming to live due to their ability create an illusion of authenticity. In the essay,”Alone Together” by Sherry Turkle, she explores the growing connection between robotic machines and humans in the 21st century. Humans are getting more connected to robotic machines because of the machine’s increasingly ability to relate to them. According to Turkle, robotic machines are being programmed to give an illusion of emotions hence increasing human's ability to feel related to them. The author …show more content…

In the article, “ Project Classroom Makeover” by Cathy Davidson, she explains to her readers why she believes that technology has the power to influence and change formal education for the better. She also emphasizes that the archaic education system and way of learning fails to benefit today’s 21st century student who is more exposed to the digital world. Davidson’s successful experimentation with the ipod technology at Duke University as a learning tool proved her point that technology can be effective in today’s formal educational system and it’s the key to the future. Connection in today’s society doesn’t have to be authentic for people to get attached. It has to be something we feel understands us even though it is a mere illusion. Robotic machines provide these feelings. The ability of robots to replicate human feelings and intimacy makes it possible for humans to develop a connection with it, hence allowing them to be part of our lives. As Turkle states, “we live in the robotic moment not because we have companionate robots in our lives but because the way we contemplate them on the horizon says much about who we are and who we are willing to become”(460). We are willing to let robotic machines determine our future because humans have become so attached to them due to their ability to give us false impressions of emotions. People resistance to show emotions to each other is leading people to seek refuge in compassionate robotic machines. These companionate robots have replaced siblings in households, pets in nursing homes and eventually going to replace our parents. Although robotic machines provides an illusion of emotions, these emotions sometimes helps lonely children who feel out of place in society. This ability of one form of technology encourages humans to be more flexible with other forms of technology because they want to experience the benefits and potential. The potential of the
