“When you're not practicing someone else is getting better.” Wise words said by Allen Iverson a retired professional basketball player. Who won the all star game mvp award in 2001 and 2005, and was the NBA’s Most Valuable PLayer in 2001. Before all this happen though Allen had to go through tough times to make it. To being raised in a not so kid friendly environment, skipping school, and not playing any sports for some time. But after thinking things through and maturing he went on to accomplish a lot of amazing goals. Allen Iverson was born on June 7, 1975 in Hampton, Virginia to his 15 year old mother named Ann. His biological father, who was also a teenager didn't stick around, but another man named Michael Freeman who was with Allen's mother helped support the family. Allen says he didn’t do anything wrong but witnesses say otherwise. He was put in jail overnight and charged. He Missed most of his football season due to the illegal trouble and being held by the court.That means there is no scholarship possible. After all the trouble Allen got to choose to return to his old high school Bethel. He didn’t go back to his school and decided to work with a tutor to earn his high school diploma. While this was going on his mother contacted georgetown university coach, John Thompson and convinced him that her son would be the best player for him. He was conceived and set up a meeting with Allen. John was impressed with talking to him and also watching him in workouts. That he put down a scholarship on the table. Allen took this scholarship and arrived on campus for a fresh start. Allen made a big impact when he started playing for John Thompson. With this statement being said Ferdinand was an amazing basketball player to be chosen as the first overall pick in the NBA draft not a lot of athletes can say that in the professional league. After only being with the Bucks for only a year Alcindor was making great progress! He finished second in the league with most points, third in rebounds, and also being named the league rookie of the year he quickly adjusted to the game you can say. The article states “He finished second in the league in scoring and third in rebounding, and was named Rookie of the Year” (“Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Biography”). This being said Alcindor made a big impact his first year in the NBA. After making a few adjustments to the Bucks rooster the following years and adding a well needed player Oscar Robertson in 1971 the Bucks finished their regular season 66 wins and 16 loses and the success did not stop there. They finished the season strong by sweeping the Baltimore Bullets in the 1971 NBA finals which means they won the series 4-0 and Alcindor played a big role in this. The biography states “The following season the Bucks, having added future Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson to their roster, made another huge leap.
