Baseball has been around for many years. It is one of the greatest sports of all time. It is very popular, people across the world play the sport. Baseball has been around longer than most of the sports that are around today. The MLB has been around for over one hundred years. There are a lot of rules and ways to get better at baseball. Baseball was invented in America in 185. But even before that, as early as the 1600s, people in England played a similar game called rounders. You may have heard a man named Abner Doubleday, he invented baseball in Cooperstown, New York, during the summer of 1839. Doubleday then went on to become a civil war hero, while baseball became America's beloved national pastime. Baseball became an organized sport in the 1840s and the 1850s. People even played baseball in the civil war. In 1901, the National League rival, the American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, was founded. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning, and nine innings constitute a game. In the field there are a pitcher, a catcher, four infielders, and three outfielders. The pitcher throws overhand, employing a variety of deliveries, from the raised pitchers mounds to home plate, a distance of 60.5 ft. An opposing batter attempts to hit the pitches and safely reach base, while the fielders attempt to put the batter out through various plays. A batter who misses three pitches, or fails to swing at three pitches is out. But if the pitcher pitches four balls the batter can walk to first base.
