When examining a myriad of role playing games, there are certain aspects that are captured in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which are often found lacking in other games. These components place Skyrim in a class all by itself among Role Playing Games. The components of a great role playing video game are an engaging plot, deep and rich character development, and vivid graphic design all which coalesce into an intriguing game that tantalizes the imagination and captures the mind.
The game starts at the character design screen. A vast number of choices await the gamer as they decide on the features of their character. The choices of race, sex, allegiance are common to most video games however Skyrim really takes it a step further. The developers included among other things hair length, color, and style. Also, they included many features such as eyes, nose and chin definition to add more of the user’s preferences to their character. Once the user has navigated the character creation process the fun doesn’t stop. Within the game, the process of the character development has unique feel to it that is rarely experienced in a video game. Normal leveling practices of kill enemies, gain more experience are thrown out the window. Instead the developers went with a “practice” approach. Whereas, each time a character uses a certain weapon, skill, or armor, their proficiency in that field grows ever so slightly. To paraphrase Tom Francis “every hour, a major decision is made about the characters ability (Francis).”This helps to really incorporate the gamer into the character building process where normal clichés of character classes are thrown to the wayside, and unique and personalized character building really takes place. ...and great attention was paid to the emotion within each character’s voice. To summarize Onyette, the characters feel whole and not just downtown greeters handing out quests (Onyett). The musical soundtrack of Skyrim is awe inspiring and one of the best over created for a video game.
Overall, Skyrim is a mesmerizing game that really encompasses engaging plot, deep and rich character development, and vivid graphic design to maximize the user experience. The exceptional use of these characteristics makes for one of the best role playing games ever.

Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.
I can’t began to relay all the time and money I’ve wasted playing such games. Such as Skyrim, Fallout new Vegas and Dragon's Dogma. To elaborate, Skyrim not only requires strategy, power, but it also requires patients. Its long term gameplay and freelance world make it impossible to bull through. What skills to choose from, what weapon to master, and what armor is best: are only a few questions that come to mind. Every choice I make plays a crucial role in completing a mission, wither I’m a good guy or bad. Along with mission choices I also have to pay attention to different classifications, or ‘trees’ as referred to as in the game. There are an array of different ones a player can chose from, ones varying form Restoration, Conjuration down to Light or heavy armor and even those are broken down into subcategories. Would I rather have a shorter casting time, or a stronger
There exists a world where you can be or do something you’ve always imagined. You can fly in the sky or own a brand new custom Ferrari. You can be the central character and be hailed a hero or become a dreadful villain. You can do whatever your imagination wishes. What am I talking about? Video games. Now you may not believe it but video games actually contain a lot of reading, despite being action packed. Players have to read dialogues, hints, tips, help, paragraphs of information, narrations, explanations of various objectives, and more. Some games are even classified as visual novels. These types of games contain little to no gameplay but contain the most text compared to others.
J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy is arguably the most influential work of fantasy literature in modern times. Its epic tale of good against evil and its surreal world of magical and unusual characters and places have captured and enchanted readers since its publication half a century ago. The story of the struggle to destroy the One Ring still influences numerous tales of adventure in literature, film, and role-playing games. Since the advent of role-playing video games, the Final Fantasy series has endured in a genre where many other games seem to blend together. It marks a standard in the world of role-playing games in much the same way The Lord of the Rings marks a standard in fantasy literature. This essay shall examine these two epic adventures and show some of the ways in which Final Fantasy VIII draws upon elements from The Lord of the Rings.
