A Rhetorical Analysis Of Julian Treasure's Speech

What is the instrument that every human being can play? It’s the human voice. In the TED-talk that I analyzed, Julian Treasure, a sound and communication expert and a five-time TED-speaker, vividly explained how our voice can be manipulated into a way that people would want to listen to whatever we have to say. He used beautiful examples and clear explanations so that the audience could easily digest what he was talking about. Being an expert in presenting in front of an audience and also an expert in the area he was presenting, Julian Treasure without a doubt had his initial ethos covered. But as his speech went by he built his ethos very creatively. From the jokes that he subtly threw in his presentation to his witty comments, he had a character no one would forget. He showed that he had competence by the way he eloquently defined and explained the terms he used. Anyone could tell by the way he spoke that he desired for his audience to grab knowledge from what he was saying. Throughout his entire speech, Treasure maintained the ethos he had by being ethical with the way his spoke and treating his audience. After finishing the speech, I realized I had misjudged his capability. His usage of pathos wasn’t clearly positioned but that was the beauty of it. Most might miss it, but even his title had pathos dripping all over it. It made people question whether they had the ability to make others listen to them; hence, making the people attentively listen if they followed the steps he was mentioning. He made everyone fear the thought of not having the potential to make others listen to them which persuaded them to use the tips he mentioned. This technique is a very big part of the pathos aspect of the rhetoric
