In “A Message to Garcia,” Hubbard explains Garcia was a leader of the insurgents during a war between Spain and the United States. He lived in the mountains of Cuba but no one knew his exact whereabouts. It was necessary to communicate with him regardless. Hubbard then wrote about a man took on the job. She talks about, “How the 'fellow by the name of Rowan ' took the letter, sealed it over his heart, in four days landed by night off the coast of Cuba from an open boat, disappeared into the jungle, and in three weeks came out on the other side of the Island, having traversed a hostile country on foot and delivered his letter to Garcia.” Hubbard explained that he was a extraordinary man that held components for success in just about every aspect of life. The story of Rowan delivering the mail to Garcia depicts the significance of getting work done without making excuses. It explained clearly that in society, no matter how strong or poor the economy is, those who have the intention of taking their work seriously regardless will prosper. One of the most common themes of life has always been “the survival of the fittest.” When relating this idea to school or our careers, it is essential to stand out and work to our full potential in order to truly succeed. The writer also uses the example of the man was did not carry a value to anyone and did not take or receive any orders. The writer showed this example to depict a man who did not bring positive characteristics in the workforce and ended up being unemployed and roaming the streets searching for a job.
