In Chapter 14, “What’s Motivating this Writer?” One key point is that the author can be writing based on an argument that he or she is responding to. They usually build arguments over issues that may be overlooked by their readers. Rather than having one argument, they have multiple and include the actual standpoint of the argument and also have their own response to it. Also, the reader should try to visualize what the author is arguing about so they can understand what they are retorting to or know what the argument is about.
Cedric is an unusual student to walk the halls of Ballou High. Unlike most of his peers, he actually wants to make something of himself; he does his homework, he studies and he works on extra credit projects. The majority of the kids at Ballou barely come to class, much less make any attempt at learning. Since this is the overall attitude of the school, Cedric must exercise social mobility and do whatever he can to better himself as an individual. He is not necessarily competing against the students at Ballou (because he by far surpasses them), but he is in competition with all the other students from better schools throughout the area. During the summer that Cedric spends at MIT, he is truly awakened to the fact that he was extremely far behind the other students from urban areas. The director of the program expresses his frustration with the MIT program- "When he first arrived... He had grand plans to find poor black and Hispanic kids from urban America-... He saw that he had been drea...
Though Cedric is aware of the jeers he receives from his classmates for his accomplishments, he continues to hold his head up high when he thinks of his "green light": to graduate from Ballou, and continue his education at an Ivy League school. As I read A Hope in the Unseen, I thought of the unfairness of the American ideal.
In the book “look me in the eyes” by John Elder Robison, he talks about his life with Asperger’s and the challenged he faced as a kid. The first thing I noticed when reading the book that John Elder had a hard time looking people in the eye. Which is very common with kids with Asperger’s. During the time her was a student teachers didn’t know what this was so they handled the situation differently by yelling at him trying to force him to look them in the eye. If I was the teacher I would go about this situation differently I would try to figure out why he can’t look me in the eyes. By yelling at the student the teacher may be causing them to have anxiety which can cause any student to want to look away. Students sometimes think if a situation
The author starts off the chapter by writing about a man named Carl N. Karcher. He is known as the founder of the fast food restaurant called Carl’s Jr. He dropped out of school at the age of 14 and a few years later, his uncle offered him a job in a city in California called Anaheim. One of the themes is workforce because he was an employee for his uncle. He was a very good worker at his uncle's work place. He once spotted a woman who he was attracted to and he asked her out for ice cream. He soon changed his job and started to work elsewhere. Carl married the women (Margaret) a few years laters and they had their first child.
In the end of the story, Andrew’s dad helps Andrew be able to go to school. His dad says to Andrew, “Andrew you have to start school this Summer.” Andrew answers, “How?” His dad responds back with, “I don’t know but you’re going.” This shows how Andrew’s dad really believes that Andrew will go to school next Fall. It also shows how Andrew’s never gives up on Andrew going to school. He helps him by never giving up and making him go to school.
Back to more agonizing death, in the chapter “In The Field,” the platoon is hit with a devastating loss of life, and one of the men suffers very deep shame and guilt for the part he played. The platoon makes camp in a field along the river, despite the locals warnings to stay out. It’s raining and within a short time, they realize they’ve made camp in the village’s toilet. As the water rises, the field becomes deep muck. During the night, Kiowa’s best buddy, a young soldier, clicked on his flashlight to show Kiowa a picture and within a millisecond mortar rounds started exploding all around them, Kiowa was wounded, went under the water and muck, and drowned. O’Brien himself stated, “There were bubbles where Kiowa’s head should’ve been” (O’Brien
In reading this chapter I came to acknowledge a lot facts that I didn’t realize about the British Zulu war. The battle at Rorke’s drift, and the battle at Isandhlwana are the chapter main focus in book Carnage and Culture. It gave multitudes of information that went well in detail about the battles. After reading the chapter, and researching the information on the war, and comparing the information presented by Victor Davis Hanson I found the information insightful and correct. He backs up his statements with facts and explains how western military forces were so dominate because of tactics, discipline and technology.
On the first four chapters, Ray’s met two people whom he called Dharma Bums. The old bum whom he met in the gondola during his trip from Los Angeles and Japhy a young scholar from Oregon whom he seen interest in Buddhism and have a great poetic skills. I Meeting the old bum in gondola reminds him about the practice of charity in Diamond Sutra. He realizes that during the time he was practicing his religious devotion he is not being true to what he knew and said. In addition, he felt that he was a wanderer seeking for the true teaching of Buddhism. On the other hand, he observed a lot during his meeting with Japhy. He thinks that his knowledge and belief is insincere or pointless due to what he is doing.
The "Hope in the Unseen" by Ron Suskind sheds light on many controversial issues today such as racism, personal struggles but also gives other students like Cedric the determination to push forward], I feel like this book has a raw and uncut perspective of growing up in a culture of poverty and succeeding despite this. In the beginning the whole thing felt very artificial and cliché to me. It felt like any other story about growing up in poverty. The fact that poverty has become so cliche makes this book all the more relevant. If you don't really understand what it’s like to go through what Cedric went through like financially struggling, living in a single parent home, with a violent community, and having a parent imprisoned. it’s much harder to empathize It’s much easier to ignore his culture
In A Lesson Before Dying, readers are able to see how difficult it is to live as a black man in Bayonne, Louisiana. Readers see that Grant experiences racism in many different ways. From the simple task of buying a radio to just talking to a white man, the racial bias of Bayonne is clearly present. In the novel, A Lesson Before Dying, Gaines uses the theme of change in the life of Grant to prove to readers that an individual within a system can control his own fate.
Many people think that reading more can help them to think and develop before writing something. Others might think that they don’t need to read and or write that it can really help them to brainstorm things a lot quicker and to develop their own ideas immediately (right away). The author’s purpose of Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, is to understand the concepts, strategies and understandings of how to always read first and then start something. The importance of this essay is to understand and comprehend our reading and writing skills by brainstorming our ideas and thoughts a lot quicker. In other words, we must always try to read first before we can brainstorm some ideas and to think before we write something. There are many reasons why I chose Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, by many ways that reading can help you to comprehend, writing, can help you to evaluate and summarize things after reading a passage, if you read, it can help you to write things better and as you read, it can help you to think and evaluate of what to write about.

In 2006 Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC made their gaming system PlayStation 3 (PS3) available for purchase claiming that it would be the most advanced gaming system on the market that would last generations.
