Dentistry is a health science that includes the study and application of measures designed to prevent damage of the oral structures and the use of clinical procedures that that restore the normal masticatory function of teeth and esthetics, correction of speech resulting from loss of natural teeth, satisfaction and comfort of the patient, preservation of alveolar bone and tempromandibular joints. Other goals are to relief pain, treatment of a disease and maintaining the restoration for a long time in the denture without distortion or fracture.
This is done using the branch of dentistry called prosthodontics which establishes the goals of dentistry by replacing the missing teeth and oral and maxillofacial tissues with artificial substitutes. In each case they started by extracting the remaining teeth in one jaw and examined clinically and radiographically to make sure root canal treatment can be made and that there is periodontal support available for the denture. After root canal treatment was made, they were sealed with amalgam and topical fluoride, then the application of gold copings. Finally the process of gingivectomy takes place. After all these steps the denture is ready for construction. After construction, relief of the fitting surface of the denture is made. The dentures were delivered to the patients and were ready for use. Positive results have been seen on periodic checkups and most of the patients didn’t complain. One patient suffered from plaque deposition on abutment teeth due to insufficient oral hygiene. Gold copings protect root surface but are expensive which makes the treatment overall expensive. Most of the time canines are used as abutments because they are frequently the last teeth to be lost in the jaw because of their large root surface
