As a woman, I always find myself longing after a totally unsuitable man. My head tells me one thing yet my heart tells me another. What is the pull that bad boys have on us? Why are we so attracted to guys who treat us like trash? i analyzed the similarities and differences between these two very different types of men and I found three main ways the relate to each other are through money, attitude and their personalities toward women. The good guy and the bad boy are alike in the fact that they like to have money. The good guy usually earns his living by getting a degree and working as a doctor/lawyer/stockbroker/business owner. He puts in long hours and moves up the corporate ladder quickly. He buys his own car and puts a down payment on a house. He doesn’t live paycheck to paycheck because he invests his money wisely. His idea of a nice night out is dinner at a fancy restaurant and a play at the Mac. On the other hand, the bad boy dropped out of school and keeps on trying to obtain his G.E.D. his never holds a job for long, just bounces from minimum wage job to minimum wage job. ...
In “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”, O’Connor gives brilliant support to the theme, even going so far as stating it in the title itself. Through her creative details and intentional use of rhetoric, O’Connor strengthens the idea that the true definition of a ‘good man’ is skewed and difficult to pinpoint. Defining a ‘good man’ varies because it is individualized from reader to reader and a generic definition cannot be composed. This gothic piece of literature is realistic, and through its theme, the reader is exposed to the flaws of society as a whole.
When someone is thinking of a man, what do they think? Strong? Brave? That’s what most people think; in reality that is a very false image. In “Bros Before Hos: The Guy Code,” Michael Kimmel, talks about what it means to be a man and what it takes to be a man in today’s world. Men are pressured into what they “should” be. If they don’t follow certain unwritten rules, which include: not asking for directions, not giving up, not showing fear, or any signs of emotional weakness, such as tears; they are considered less than a man, a wimp. A real man must be aggressive and brave, he must defend his territory: status, family, possessions. Men blindly follow the Guy Code, they believe in order to fit in, they must comply and be part of the pack.
There are plenty of on this earth who are egocentric. They feel that as if every decision they make is important and feel as if they are more important than everyone else. Flannery O 'Connor explores this type of mindset in her short story A Good Man is Hard to Find. The story focuses on a family of six who are going on a trip from Georgia to Tennessee after the Grandmother reads an article about a serial killer heading to Florida.
A men biggest weakness is expressing their emotions. They are taught from an early age to be fearless and powerful. They are informed that 'Big Boys Don 't Cry ' and to 'Man Up '. Men start to connect feelings and emotions with their weakness. They come to believe that they have failed if they become affectionate and were to open their hearts. As a result, many men try to be the warrior who saves the people around them and always puts on a bold face. Men are typically the provider of their household and tend to play the male role. “All men are the same”, is the most common phrase we all hear a lot nowadays, but some of us fail to realize that they are not. Carver argues that men are successful in relationship when they are unafraid to express emotion.
Men that carry out the “machismo way of life” feel that they have to constantly prove their manhood to the world. This is generally achieved by behaving in an aggressive manner among other men, also females are looked upon as objects and the more women you seduce, the manlier you are. This type of behavior is given praise by other men and by society in general, thus encouraging men to keep on behaving in this macho manner. Another way in which men carry out this macho life style is by a...
In Flannery O’Connor’s short story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, the definition of the word “good” seems to change and develop as the story progresses. By the time the Misfit says, “‘would have been a good woman if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life’” (par 140) to the grandmother after he has killed her, the word has a whole different meaning.

You are sitting in your living room at home watching the nightly news. The lead story for the night is about a family of four that were murdered. After seeing and hearing about something like that we often ask ourselves, What could possess a person enough to kill another human being? What is it that drives a person to kill? Will we ever know? Many authors use this unique mentality in short stories. They write about what the killer thinks and how he/she acts on his/her thoughts. One of these stories is “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”, by Flannery O’Connor. In this story O’Connor’s victim, The Misfit, is an escaped convict. He was in the Federal Penitentiary for killing his father. Throughout the story O’Connor builds up this killers mentality through his words and body language. Like many other murderers, The Misfit could not distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality.
In the story A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O'Connor there is 1 antagonist and 1 protagonist. Which is the grandmother ( the protagonist) and the misfit(antagonist). As you read the story it may not seem in the beginning that the grandmother is the protagonist but she is.
When this thinking is applied to the discussion about men, it helps us to understand where the ideas about a “natural” masculinity that is same for all men comes from. If “man” is the physical representation, “masculinity” is the essence that defines him. So for example, if “masculinity” is defined by the society as behaviour that is sexually and physically aggressive, dominant, confident and avoiding the show if emotions, men that do not conform to these qualities are arguably less manly.

GG. Allen once quoted,’’ I believe you can make forces of good and evil work for you, to get what you want’’. In A Good Man is hard to find “ O’Connor used the character of the Misfit to compare the fine line between good and evil. He plays on the idea of corruption and how it affects people's mindset. In “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” the moment when the Misfit tells the grandmother the crime does not matter. It reveals the Misfit had a inner good and morals, but doctors corrupted his mind and way of thinking.
In Flannery O'Connor's, " A Good Man is Hard to Find" two characters that are either displayed as good or bad, are the Grandmother and the Misfit. To truly judge if these characters are good or bad, we must analyze the motives and past experiences of both the Grandmother and the Misfit. In doing so we realize that the whole concept of good and bad is flawed and an individual does certain actions based on their past experiences. The Grandmother is portrayed as a person from a good and pious family, so many people would call her "good", however when analyzing her actions such as her treatment of the Misfit, one can argue that she is not good and even bad. On the other hand, the Misfit is considered bad, because he has killed people and has very outrageous religious values, however if you consider his life experiences and his intentions, the Misfit can be
Men are getting a bad rap lately. To compensate for men dominating culturally for years there is now an over-emphasis on the less desirable qualities of men. An inaccurate stereotype has surfaced recently that seemingly embodies all men. This hurtful persona that men have been given is now seen as the norm, and whether we realize it or not it is widely accepted.
