Meteorology
Meteorologists perform a wide range of tasks relating to atmospheric phenomena, yet they are generalized into five main categories: broadcast meteorologists, climate scientists, forensic meteorologists, research meteorologists and weather forecasters ("Atmospheric Scientists, Including Meteorologists."). Broadcast meteorologists are the men and women whom can be observed on television stations throughout the country. They are tasked with providing their viewers with the latest updates on severe weather along with a five day forecast based on reliable models (Garman). The second type of meteorologists are climate scientists. This group of trained experts is usually part of a larger team of researchers who study the climate of the …show more content…

A major in Meteorology, Atmospheric science, or a closely related field is necessary for all positions. For most positions a bachelor’s degree is required, although a Phd is the minimum for most research positions ("Career: Meteorologists."). Colleges in southern california that offer a major in meteorology include University of Southern California Los Angeles and University of California San Diego ("Career: Meteorologists."). In addition to formal education, first hand education can be acquired via work study programs from NOAA and NASA. To further enhance one’s resume, a certification from the National Weather Service or American Meteorological society can be obtained after their toilsome requirements have been met (Garman). With this said, a wide range of education requirements are in place for meteorological …show more content…

The result of my Myers-Briggs test was a personality type of INFP, which is commonly associated with introverted personalities and thus complements meteorologists’ working environment. Most work on their own and without much interaction with others. The job also requires the ability to deal with mistakes and recover from an erroneous forecast (Garman). Persons with INFP personality types tend to work better on their own, though they may have a hard time overcoming problems. On the other hand, my multiple intelligence score is weak in the area of mathematics. A high level of understanding of complex mathematics such as calculus is required for a major in meteorology ("Career: Meteorologists."). My low score in this category could prove a major hinderance as the ability to work with complex math is needed for the creation of weather forecasts. Given all this, it’s clear that I do not match up perfectly with
