In 1983, Howard Gardner a Harvard professor proposed the theory that individual can have multiple ways of learning and processing information. The multiple intelligences consist of 9 different ways and these include: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, existential, musical, naturalistic, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Every individual has a different amount of each intelligence but each intelligence is at a varying level. With the help of a multiple intelligences assessment, I found that my top three multiple intelligences are Intrapersonal, logical, and interpersonal. Interpersonal intelligences are nearly the complete opposite because it is said that “Interpersonal intelligences reflects an ability to recognize and understand other people’s moods, desires, motivations, and intentions” (www.edutopia.org). The third intelligence that I correspond with is logical-mathematical intelligence and Gardner says that “Logical-mathematical intelligences describes the ability to develop equations and proofs, make calculations, and solve abstract problems” (www.edutopia.org). My self-reflection will use the multiple intelligences paradigm to analyze my strengths and weaknesses within my top multiple intelligences which are intrapersonal, interpersonal, and logical-mathematical. I will also examine what careers are congruent with my top multiple intelligences.

This intelligence helps me better understand myself because I am pretty good at math and it is something that I typically enjoy. This intelligence also says that I am a very structured person and I like organization. I like to know what is going on and how everything is going to work before I start anything. A teacher that I am very close with is very structured and that is why we get along so well with each other. This intelligence affects me negatively because I do not like things that or assignments that are relatively broad or unspecific. I am a person who does not like to make mistake so I like instructions and criteria to be thorough and well explained. The classroom has definitely cultivated this intelligence because with almost everything there are instructions and examples. I am getting into a part of my life where people are not giving me step-by-step directions or instructions and I have to learn to be more independent. In reality, people are a combination of most every single one of the intelligences and certain intelligences blend into one another. I have never thought anything of my type of intelligence until we started discussing two psychologists theories about different types of intelligence in class. According to Sternberg's triarchic theory of intelligence, I feel my profile would fit more in the analytic intelligence and slightly in the practical intelligence. Sternberg's analysis of analytic intelligent people says, "They often are considered to be "smart" students who get good grades, show up in high-level tracks, do well on traditional tests of intelligence and the SAT, and later get admitted to competitive colleges" (Santrock, 2013, p. 300). This statement makes me believe that this fits my profile more than the other intelligence he listed because I was accepted into Our Lady of the Lake college as well as did extremely well on my ACT test. In Gardner's eight frames of mind, I feel as though I identify with several frames such as; verbal, mathematical, bodily kinesthetic, and interpersonal.
Howard Gardner’s theory contains eight main multiple intelligence. As the years have progressed there have taken one out and is left with the main seven. These seven are: Linguistic, Mathematical, Spatial, bodily, Musical, Interpersonal, and Intrapersonal. These are found in everyone; however, each person will excel in one or two. By reaching each students intelligence we can assume that a student will perform better which, could mean students retaining more important information. A students learning style can also help lead them into a more appropriate career direction. As a teacher you can also learn your own personal learning style or intelligence to help improve the way you learn and teach.
