A Boating Experience Essay

Since I am a high school student, most people would say that I have my entire life and many experiences ahead of me. But despite being so young, I already have had a heart-stopping experience, which I am sure will haunt and guide me until my last days. It all started with a summer boating trip I took with my family to Lucky Peak Lake Reservoir. Though we did not hit an iceberg like the ship Titanic, it was truly a chilling experience. The day actually started out very pleasant, my family drove to Lucky Peak to spend the day out on the water with my cousins and grandparents. I then noticed to the right of us were huge rocks, and the violent waves were pushing us straight towards them. My grandfather and I then went to put down the anchor, but it was missing. The boat had recently been reupholstered, and unbeknownst to us they had taken out the anchor and failed to put it back in. We had no anchor, and we were headed straight for a bunch of massive rocks. “We are all going to drown,” I thought to myself as our boat was tossed about on the waves. I remember my muscles tensing up, and then getting a huge cut across my face as the boat’s window/windshield swung open hitting me in the face. At this point panic was ensuing on the boat with the younger passengers and my usually stable mom. In desperation my grandfather and I took some rope that was on board and fashioned it so we could tie the boat to a lone rock in the water to anchor us far enough away from crashing into the massive rock pile. The boat was getting scratched up and pounded with waves. Pretty soon another boat drove by somewhat near us, and we screamed and waved like mad to flag them down. They acknowledged us but didn’t stop and drove on. Then a few minutes later they returned and came back to check on us. Apparently the driver of the boat
