Critical pedagogy is a term used to describe the techniques, strategies, and approaches for teaching and learning. Unfortunately, most kids are not getting the “critical” part of this education. Education has been designed to promote, protect, and perpetuate the status quo. It is designed to keep things the same. Education has a basic goal or function to maintain society as it is right now. It is a society by and for the capitalist class. Education is designed to promote a corporate capitalist class. Teaching our children and students to think critically and scientifically would change things away from the status quo. Suddenly the future of our nation becomes dangerous to corporate capitalists and their way of life. This is known as the formal education and reproduction (hegemony) argument.
Socialization plays a huge role in the reproduction argument. Children are socialized in school and conditioned behaviorally. Growing up in schools we are taught to be silent and do our work, which leads to us being easily manipulated and less likely to speak out against authority. Obedience, such as raising your hand, teaches children and students to be always asking authority for things as biological as going to the bathroom. Children are being taught to be passive, quiet, and conform to rules and standards. They are taught never to disagree with a teacher or ask too many questions. This system of behavioral conditioning has turned students into rule keepers by labeling and out-casting kids who break these rules. ... the world. If you learn of a problem, you have a duty to do something about it. We can transform society based on the critiques mentioned above. Education can be used as a service and activism. We must transcend the culture of silence. Education can be used as a tool of social justice. If we learn about social issues we sure as hell better stand up against them such as racism, sexism, and homophobia. Education as a whole can be used as an empowerment of the people. We can use education to inform the people to make their own decisions and break away from the brainwashing that is happening every day. All in all a properly educated person is not only dangerous and can help break this “reproduction of the status quo” but they understand that they have a responsibility to better their community. There is most definitely a positive outlook if we can make the change.
Education has been the pathway to a better life for many years now. It is full of opportunity for many Americans. Education is not for every child but it is necessary in the early part of kids’ lives to learn the important things. Thanks to our government, we have public education in which we have free kindergarten through 12th grade. Public education is paid by through our taxes. Because of this, the government runs the schools and that can cause some problems. There will always be room for improvement in the public education system. I think the biggest thing we can do to improve K-12 schooling right now, is to go to a year round school year schedule.
Many great minds believe that education is a powerful tool. Investing in your education is the most valuable and most rewarding thing a person can do to secure their future. Influential people who have brought positive changes to the world have said: “The investment in knowledge pays the best interest”. (Franklin). “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. (Nelson Mandela). “A brighter future starts with an education”. (Montgomery).
Education has always been in existence in one form or another. As each child is born into this world regardless of who or where they are born, life lessons immediately begin. He/she will learn to crawl, walk, and talk by the example and encouragement of others. Although these lessons are basic in the beginning they evolve as the child grows. However, the core learning method of a child does not change. Learning from others, they will watch, listen, and then act for themselves. Thomas Jefferson believed that an education would lead men and women to the ability to be self-governed and become positive contributors to society (Mondale & Patton, 2001). Today, we can see how true this is by the examples of others. Those that are given the opportunity for education are more likely to find jobs and develop skills that not only improve a community, but influence the economic growth of their nation (Ravitch, Cortese, West, Carmichael, Andere, & Munson, 2009, p. 13). On the other hand, if an education is not provided to individuals, they can become a hindrance to that nation’s growth.
“ ‘Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.’ ” This quote, by Nelson Mandela, is a very powerful line. It states that with education, you have the most potential to change the world. Education is something that is, sadly, denied to many people. Education, or lack thereof, can change the path you take in life.
Becoming educated we earn the right to make changes and to be heard. I am proud to be a part of culture that has come from Warriors. We are natural fighters and have the ability to become powerful in a positive way. By helping and supporting each other anything is possible, even saving my home, La Mission.
The article “Critical Literacy in the Classroom” (2005), was written by Ann S. Beck, an English teacher at Camosun College in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This article explains that it is imperative for teachers to understand the concepts of critical literacy as well as to achieve a critical teaching approach. The author’s main focus was to address and define the importance of teaching critical literacy as an educational practice by approaching dialogue (social act), reflection (critical literacy), and textual critique in the classroom. In brief, these concepts are of main importance to be use in the classroom for students to become active participants in their own meaning-making experiences and to change the way we think about education.

Even though people say that you can’t teach old dogs new tricks, everyday is a learning experience and your never too old to learn something new. Education is something that you can never have enough of. There is always something new and improved for people to learn about. Especially with the way technology is developing these days. Even though education is just one of the several social institutions, I think that it is very important. Family however is more important but it seemed that several students were already working on papers having to do with family.
I believe that the aim of education is to create well-rounded citizens in a democratic society. This means that students are not only being taught just the academic standards by also being taught social skills. The students will be able to be a citizen that will improve their society and be a person who is diverse and who is open to the differences in people. With this comes a couple of barriers, such as the desire to learn new things in both teachers and students in the classroom is lacking and the worker-as-machine model.

Education is considered to be one of the most is important thing in our life. we can say that education is the knowledge or the skill that can be taken . Education can teach us as individuals or communities the good things and the bad , it can help us to have a good choice for our future based on our strengths or weakness ( in high school you can gain these skills ) and direct us to our role in society . Some countries do not have good standards in education , resulting in a society having aimless lives. Some of them find themselves as criminals or useless people so they did not feel their role to improve their countries and most of them do not take their responsibilities toward their children, which make the children consider as negative citizens.
Education is a vital part of society. It serves the beneficial purpose of educating our children and getting them ready to be productive adults in today's society. But, the social institution of education is not without its problems. Education is a very important aspect of the lives of all people all over the world. What we learn, not just in the classroom, shapes who we are. We take our education everywhere we go. We use it when talking to our buddies about sports or music, we use it while solving a math problem, we use our education while debating with our family whether or not we should watch TV or go to the movies. Our education is the foundation of who we are, since every decision we make and every thought we think is dependent on what we know. Imagine how different the world would be if everyone craved learning to such a degree that at lunch tables all over the world the topic of conversation isn't who likes who, or how drunk someone got over the weekend, but it would be what books were read over the weekend, and what new ideas were thought of. This crave for learning would be an ideal but still suggests need for improvement with the current educational system. It seems that the problem with education is that somewhere along the lines the human race forgot (assuming they, at one point, understood how valuable information is) that learning is not just a mandatory process, but also an opportunity to transcend and open the gateway to a better understanding.
To quote a phrase from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, "Make me the master of education, and I will undertake to change the world." If we are to change the world simply because we have and continue to acquire the education necessary to increase knowledge; we must never forget education along without the practice of inducing what is learned is not enough to produce attainable results favorable to sustain a society in the 21st century. We must become the voice of the people by getting involved to make a difference in the world by putting into motion what we have learned.
