Each year in the month of October, our Advanced English teacher assigns us the Voice of Democracy paper. There is no denying that we all try to avoid writing it, because we dislike writing any kind of paper. But we are told how much it means to the judges reading them, and that we need to stay positive. Although writing this paper is not my favorite thing to do, it gives me a better understanding of how our nation is going to improve in the future. As more people begin to retire, it will be my generation to take over. When I began researching information for my paper, I realized how important it is for my generation to be aware of what is going on now, so that in the future, we will know how to address the situations that emerge. I am optimistic about our nation’s future because it will be us to improve upon things such as our technology, education, healthcare, and environment. Technology is always changing, and there are always new discoveries being made. Ten years ago, no one would have ever thought that it was possible to print out a plastic gun and functionally use it. Today, we are using three dimensional printers to print out anything from jewelry to clothing. In another ten years, it might be possible for 3D printing to replicate human body parts needed in surgery. If we are optimistic about these possible improvements, there is a good chance that they will become true. Along with 3D printing, technological advances are also always being made with mechanical agents. In factories, the labor used to all be done by man. As we continue into the future, more and more work is being completed by these agents, or robots. Because of these robots, products can be mass produced and more money can be made for the compa... ... middle of paper ... ...hat my generation will have the initiative and power to reverse the increasing greenhouse effect and to stop deforestation. I also believe that we will be able to perfect the current problem of finding renewable resources for sources of power. As I get older, I begin to realize that these decisions will be mine, and others, in the future. To be optimistic about our nation’s future, I must also be optimistic about my future. Improvements in technology, education, healthcare, and the environment will all play a big role in determining how our future will be, and I believe that my generation can handle the pressure of each. While writing this paper, I learned a lot about where my country is heading in the future, and I am very excited to see how it turns out. I am optimistic about our nation’s future because it will be my generation to change it for the better.
On the national civics assessment, “two-thirds of 12th graders scored below ‘proficient’…and only 9 percent could list two ways a democracy benefits from citizen participation” (O’Connor and Romer 4). The information provided clarifies just how little students know about democracy. Without education on the subject, they are unaware as to how their government contribution is beneficial and why it is needed in the first place. The students, because of their lack of understanding, therefore choose to not take part in their government and fail to carry out their duties as a citizen. The authors provide more research that shows “the better people understand our history and system of government, the more likely they are to vote and participate in the civic life” (O’Connor and Romer 8).

The United States is run by a democracy. There are many pieces to democracy that must be in good health in order for democracy to be effective and work. In this essay I will critique some of the most important parts of democracy in America and go deeper. I will first focus on the strengths of United States democracy and then I will dive into categories of democracy that I believe to not be thriving. I believe that the current conditions of United States democracy are becoming a hindrance to this nation, because the opinions and freedoms the public possess are being stripped away through poor media, education, and economy.

Machines have changed Humanity’s lives. This is usually seen as a change for the better, but it came with a price. The industrial revolution brought with it many useful and incredibly productive machines to help humanity, but many were injured by working around them. While some may argue that industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of fast production of goods, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were the twelve to sixteen hour work days, work being done by small children, and the pollution that the factories put out.
As stated from the studies above, the rise of automation will also cause a rise and shift in the workforce. The shift will cause lower wage jobs to be replaced by efficient machines, while creating mid to high wage jobs for the rest of the workforce. This will in turn require a higher education for jobs and encourage the society to increase the education system quality. As society advances in the future, more jobs will be available despite current scares and anxieties over a job loss trend in the labor market. The agriculture and manufacturing industries will continue to decline in the future as computer software related jobs will continue to increase due to the improvements of technology in the workplace. Automation and machine learning will cause a growth in the labor market, profiting the economy and improving the
These generations of young people are the future, not only of the United States of America but also of the world. Young people will bring change and will hopefully make the world a better place. However, they cannot make the future a brighter place if they are disheartened at a young age from trying to achieve the impossible. It is society’s responsibilities to make the future better and for humanity to move forward and this cannot happen if all the millennials and those belonging to Generation Z are pessimistic because they were not able to achieve their own dream due to the circumstances in America. In order for everyone to have a bright future to look forward to the youth of today needs to have the opportunities to achieve their
Nearly 3.7 million American babies born in 1982 were the first members of the new Generation Y, or more affectionately known as millenials (Thompson, par. 1). Many things play into whether a generation is considered to be faring ‘better’ than another one; job opportunities, the state of the environment, whether the U.S. is at peace or at war, income vs. living expenses, the general happiness of the people, and the list goes on. Millenials are part of a special generation because for decades, “The American Dream” has included the belief that the future generation will fare better than the present one; however, millenials are not projected to fare better than the present generation X for many reasons.
My generation has been handed a lot of issues to hopefully be solved by my generation. The government has a national debt and unsustainable welfare programs. Programs that are well-meaning but cannot be financed by my generation. Changes will have to come through inventive minds of my generation. Also currently there are very few job opportunities for my generation. Many college graduates cannot get jobs. College cost are at an all time high, many of my generation wonder if it is worth the cost or is it even a possibility. The American dream of a college education, a good job, nice home, and car are seeming more and more unattainable to my generation.
For many years, millennials have been the focus of much debate. But one question continually remains unanswered: What will become of millennials in the future? There are people who believe that millennials are capable of being successful in the future, however, there are many other people who believe that there are numerous challenges in society the millennial generation will have to confront, which puts millennials in a position where they are unprepared to be a successful generation in the conditions of today 's society. The millennial generation is not capable of being successful, because of their increase in high self-esteem that tends to create entitlement, the competitive environment when seeking employment, and the failure of the education
Robots have greatly increased production, the quality of the parts, and the safety of workers. The main reason for the use of robots is to make a company profitable while producing a high quality part at competitive prices.
