What Does Photojournalism Mean to You?

The art or practice of communicating news by photographs and the journalism where photographs are the predominant feature is called photojournalism. It is the process that illustrates a news story through photography. Photojournalism is a step ahead of an individual’s thought or mind inspirations; it is deeper than just a picture of a dog, a car or even a Christmas tree at this time of the year. There is history and fundamental roots behind photojournalism and every photo could mean so many different things to different people. There may be an important meaning behind a picture to one person but it may mean something completely different to someone else looking at the picture at the exact same time. Photojournalism has impacted many people and has influenced and motivated them to strive for success. Photojournalism can be seen in a minimal role like a whole novel with one picture with no words to describe this picture or it could be as large as a magazine full of meaningful pictures. It can describe a story, a journey, a struggle, joy or even a lifetime. Photojournalism can be defined as so many things so the important and key question is; what does photojournalism mean to you?
In 1925 something extraordinary happened that changed the way society saw things for the rest of time. This event was when the birth of modern photojournalism came to life in Germany. The first step to this was the “Leica”, the first 35mm camera being invented. The invention of this camera was groundbreaking for all photographers. Some people are influenced by spiritual guidance and others are following money or stardom, but we all have an influential factor that drives us in search of success. Photojournalists are also influenced, whether by their surroundings or nature itself. There are things in life that many times are not easy to comprehend that occur in an individuals everyday life such as accidents, injuries, diseases and even deaths. There are times where the answer to a question is not found, but in this field there is always space and room for creativity; this is especially true in photojournalism. A picture can bring a smile to a face, it can get someone through rough times, it can help someone remember his or her roots and it can be the deciding factor in a decision that someone makes.
