Recommended: should gay marriage be legal
On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry. Should gay marriages really be allowed? Has the Supreme Court ruled in error? In our society today, homosexuals are treated unconstitutionally, they are forced to live a secret life, they are forbidden to adopt and raise children and unable to marry the person they love. This is just a few to the many inequalities that homosexuals face in everyday life.
The constitution guarantees the right to free speech and the right to pursue happiness to everyone, although homosexuals do not get to live their life by their choice. Most Americans will claim that they are in favor of equal rights for homosexuals. They will all say that gays should have the same rights in housing, jobs, and public accommodations and they should have equal access to government benefits and equal protection of the law. The average American thinks that homosexuals deserve all the rights that heterosexuals, but gay marriage is dead wrong. Many people also believe that homosexuality is about nothing but sex. If homosexuality was all about sex, why would they fight so hard to be able to marry? The reality is that homosexuality is much more about love and affection than it is about sex. Noboody can come up with a good reason to deny gays the right to marry. Homosexual people should be allowed to marry.
One argument against gay marriage is that homosexual couples are not the ideal environments to raise children in. Any convicted felon (child molesters, murderers...) can be married and raise children. Many scientific studies have shown that children raised in homes with homosexual couples are just as good as those of straight couples. Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the love of the parents, not their gender ( ). Gay people can love their children just as well as anyone else. Homosexuals want children just like anyone else wants to be a parent. Some wish to give a child the love of a good, devoted family that they did or did not experience when they were raised, which would be pretty predictable depending on when they came out. Would an orphan be better off waiting longer for a family, or with the better chances of being an adoptee, since there would be so many more adopters?
After the Civil War, America developed as an industrial country. As the industries of the country developed, immigrants came into the states for more job opportunities and freedom. New York City was one of the cities where immigrants came in, and it got many problems following the
A common mistake individuals make is that they describe sex and gender as the one in the same. Sex is assigned at birth and is based on a person’s genital appearance. Gender is a social construction; it reflects a culture meaning associated with a performance of femininity or masculinity. Sarah Rosetta Wakeman was born with the sex of female but as she grew older she would be seen associate with the gender of male. Wakeman was a simple farm girl from central New York and was the oldest of seven children. She left home and began dressing as a man and later joined the service into the 153rd regiment for the Union. She used the alias’ Private Lyons Wakeman and Edwin R. Wakeman. Wakeman ability to pass as a man in the Civil
“In the last twenty years the amount of time Americans have spent at their jobs has risen steadily. Each year the change is small, amounting to about nine hours, or slightly more than one additional day of work (Schor, 1). Juliet B. Schor’s The Overworked American: The Unexpected Decline of Leisure explores the decline of leisure time in American professionals and laborers as a result of an increase in working time. In comparison to our European counterparts, American workers are now working close to 320 more hours yearly. Schor highlights the fact that American workers are choosing to work multiple jobs contributing to less leisure time due to longer working hours. In conclusion the book depicts the idea that the materialistic nature of Americans results in them choosing to work more so that they can spend more.
As an American citizen, a person should be entitled to marry whoever they choose, regardless of gender or sexual preference. Gay marriage is something that some people consider to be taboo while other people are very supportive of it; I am one of the latter. The ability to marry someone is a basic human right and it should not be taken away from someone because they love a person of the same gender. One of the main reasons that gay marriage is illegal in the United States is because of what the Bible says about it, regardless of the fact that the first Amendment of the US Constitution says that there is to be a separation between church and state. Approximately three point eight percent of the United States population is made up of people
Some people think that recycling is an effective way to reduce pollution and others may disagree with this statement. Richard A. Denison a senior scientist at environmental defense and John F. Ruston an economist with environmental defense both think that recycling is an effective way to reduce pollution. Allen Hershkowitz a leading expert on recycling and a senior scientist at the natural resources defense council, also believes that recycling is an effective way to reduce pollution. Brenda Platt the director of materials recovery at ILSR and Neil Seldman president of the institute for local self-reliance (ILSR), both agree with Denison, Ruston and Hershkowitz. They think that “recycling not only reduces pollution but also improves public health.”
In this particular case, the firm collects a wide variety of information on its employees. For current employees, the focus is through workplace cameras, monitoring internet traffic through workplace computers, GPS tracking on employer vehicles. Prospective employees are analyzed by pre-employment personality tests and background checks. There are certain guidelines as far as what information can be collected and used against an employer. Focusing more on employer monitoring at the workplace would give a better insight on what can and cannot take place. Further, we will look into the risk that employers c...
Long work hours lend little time for leisure, which Randall said is an essential aspect of a person’s overall health. She said that people who repeatedly work overtime are too tired to exercise or spend time with family members.
30 Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (2002) Employee Monitoring: Is There Privacy in the Workplace? . (6/3/2004)
One type of surveillance is employee monitoring. Many employers monitor their workers’ activities for one reason or another. Companies monitor employees using many methods. According to a study conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Americans are working longer than ever before. The OECD’s results clearly showed that Americans aged fifteen to sixty-four worked fifty percent more than the French, Germans, and Italians (Prescott 2). This inequality in work hours has been around for decades and is only becoming more noticeable as time rolls on. Many questions and arguments exist debating what should be done to correct the issue. Because American society values a strong work ethic, many Americans overwork themselves to meet society’s expectations.
Sometimes there is no middle ground. Monitoring of employees at the workplace, either you side with the employees or you believe management owns the network and should call the shots. The purpose of this paper is to tackle whether monitoring an employee is an invasion of privacy. How new technology has made monitoring of employees by employers possible. ... on topics like this. You will certainly never get a unanimous decision from a large group of people such as the United States. While you have two sides to the topic both have their reasoning for what they believe and I am no different. In the article, Seth Forman makes some valid arguments as to why he believes homosexuals do not deserve the right to marry. He uses religion for his first example. The Freedom of Religion is one of the rights granted to Americans by the United States Constitution. It is also the cause of many disagreements such as this one. The bible does state that marriage should be between a man and a woman but Proverbs 8:17 states: “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.” Those who believe in god and truly need him are loved no matter what. What many people don’t understand is that homosexuals don’t choose to be gay.
During one of my shifts on postpartum I was helping a nurse look after a mom with her first baby. She really wanted to be able to breastfeed but she was having a lot of troubles getting her baby to latch on. It was a Saturday and there was no lactation consultant working who could come in to help her. Her baby was also small for gestational age, so she did have risk for hypoglycemia, making it really important for her baby to be feeding to ensure her blood sugars would not drop. After each attempt at breastfeeding and being unsuccessful, the mom would look very upset. The nurse tried to help her by showing her different breastfeeding positions and techniques and teaching her to express her milk and put it in the baby’s mouth. The
Recycling is one of the easiest ways to save energy for all the living things on Earth. Recycling save energy because using recyclable items that are not recycled can take a lot of energy. Recycling often saves energy because the products being recycled usually require much less processing to turn them into usable materials. Sometimes recycling can also save energy for goods which is
