“Inventing” A Writing Technology
When we originally were given the criteria for this assignment, I knew right away what it was that I was going to do. I love being creative and sharing my ideas with other people, I like to think of myself as somewhat of an original person. My idea would initially satisfy all of the given criteria: permanence, portability, creativity, and naturalness of the components used to compose my creative piece of writing.
Growing up, my brother and I would venture out when the creek was frozen and play on the ice for hours on end. One of the things we would do was carve out the ice to make picture, games and such. I knew that for his project, using ice would be an excellent idea. I knew it was fairly easy to do, it would stay there for as long as the creek continued to be frozen, and if necessary, it could be cut out and taken along to wherever I needed to go. When I arrived at my parent’s house, I headed straight for the creek with the plan in mind only to find that the ice was snow covered. I was down, but not out. After shoveling the ice, I was ready to begin my carving only to find that the ice was bubbly and definitely not smooth enough to be a recognizable writing surface. My plan was shot, I had come home for nothing.
From this point on, I was forced to come up with an alternative plan of action. I thought of many things to use such as sticks and stones, but they would all sink into the snow if I placed them there and where not very portable or permanent if laid upon the ice. After weighing my options and a great deal of thought, I caught a glimpse of one of the many trees that line my creek bank. On the tree were many jagged icicles one of which I decide to use as my writing tool. My surface became the dreaded snow that was the culprit behind my initially foiled plan.
Jem and Scouts’ father, Atticus, is very misjudged by their children. They believe that Atticus is a very semantic man that goes to work, comes back, and has no skill whatsoever in sports. Scout criticizes Atticus by saying “Atticus did not… or do anything that could possibly arouse the admiration of anyone”(118). This demonstrates that Jem and Scout are not satisfied with Atticus’s physical and amusing skills. They thought of him as an old man in his fifties that had no energy left, and had a routine of going to bed and reading in the living room instead of running around. Later, they visit there across the street neighbor, Mrs. Maudie to talk about how boring their Dad is, when Mrs. Maudie says” ‘Well, he can make everybody’s will so airtight can’t anybody meddle with him’… ‘Well, did you know he is the best checker-player in this town? Why down at the Landing when we were coming up, Atticus Finch could beat everybody on both sides of the river”(120). This establishes that they find out that their Dad isn’t so useless anymore. Even though the children find out all these activities he is excellent at, sometimes even the best, they are still not overly impressed. After Calpurnia calls the cops on the dog, Tim Johnson, The sheriff and Atticus arrive at the scene “ ‘Take him, Mr. Finch’. Mr. Tate handed the rifle to Attics; Jem and I nearly fainted…’’d you see him, Scout? ’d you see him just standing there?...’n’ all of a sudden he just relaxed all over, an’ it looked like that gun was a part of him’”(126-129).
...lar views to on another. They both have similar reliable facts about the situations as well, they both believe that the true barbarians are the Europeans. Thus, it was up to the Europeans to submit to the way of life of the Natives, instead of critiquing them on their religion and culture and forcing the Natives to change.

Steroids are used daily in America in body building, medicine, and food production. There are three main types of steroids, Corticosteroids, Anabolic steroids, and hormone steroids. Corticosteroids are the kind of steroids doctors prescribe to patients when they are sick or have some kind of medical issue. These steroids reduce overactive immune responses and reduce swelling. Anabolic steroids are used for building muscle. They also contain a lot of testosterone. Testosterone is naturally produced by one's body but too much can cause a vast variety of problems. Hormone steroids are the steroids people put in animals (DeNoon).
Society has a great impact on our lives. It tells us how to act, what to wear, what to eat and what decisions to make. Society, though, is often corrupted and shapes us in a certain way. Jean Jacques Rousseau, a late Enlightenment thinker felt strongly about this and stated that humanity must be free of society and its bounds and therefore argued that we should act like the savages who were free of society’s bonds. Rousseau was not alone in this thinking as evidence of societal corruption is seen in D.H. Lawrence’s poem, “Snake,” and in William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies. Rousseau’s ideas of societal corruption are quite prevalent in both the novel and the poem. In addition, the theme of choices and their consequences can also be seen.
The news article I studied is from March 12th 2014 and found in the Fashion and Style section of The New York Times. Its title is “In their Own Terms- the growing transgender presence in Pop culture.” This article outlines the culture surrounding transgender and transgender situations in the United States, whilst following the lives and transformations of some known citizens of pop culture.
Over the course of this paper, we will take a comprehensive look at information regarding the transgender community issue in reference to four key sociology concepts. First, we will review information highlighting how transgender people come to the forefront of the public eye as well as the bathroom uproar continuously sweeping the nation. Next, we will examine the facts showcasing how transgender people go against the social norm of associating gender with a person’s given birth sex. Thirdly, we will review information showcasing the cultural inconsistencies throughout the nation when it comes to the acceptance of transgender people. Fourthly, the material will showcase the actions transgender people must face in several states throughout

I remember one year waking up at the crack of dawn and rushing downstairs to see icicles clinging to the roof and feet and feet of snow piled up. I stared in awe for a second then frantically pulled on my hat, mittens and other snow gear. I would practically jump out the door in excitement. I stepped onto my porch and pulled myself into a standing position on top of the railing. Then I dove into the fluffy, untouched snow. Flipping onto my back, I started to create the first snow angel, with many more to come. I struggled onto my feet to examine my work but in my dismay it was ruined by my getting up. “Darn” I thought “I can do better”. So I flopped onto the ground and tried again yet again my snow angel was spoiled by a couple boots marks here and there.
Today’s society is reliant upon modern or contemporary media for access to news, information, or visuals on the state of the world among many other things. Both visual and textual media have become platforms that we use to specifically and purposely pursue knowledge or that instills that information to us on a subconscious level that we do not even realize until it’s put to use at a later date (for better or for worse). Media, while very influential and increasingly progressive, still isn’t perfect and when it comes to ‘queer media’ or shows that feature or have an LGBTQ character, there are still certain qualities that those in the community find lacking, stereotypical, or downright humiliating. This is especially true for trans* individuals who for the most part are seen “as silly” or inconsequential objects of ridicule, and when showcased we are expected to “dismiss them as theater” instead of seeing them as complex human beings who are embracing their true identities (Siebler, 2010). Even when there are non-comical media portrayals of trans* people, we still often only see them being victimized or made out to be freaks because of their struggles with their gender identities. While it is true that there is more trans* representation in media than there has ever been before in history, it is still a topic that is usually either addressed poorly and distastefully or that doesn’t fully capture the experience of those people who feel like they don’t fall on either end of the gender binary spectrum.

Currently the citizens living in the United States are imprisoned within the binary of two genders. It is only acceptable for a person to identify as a male or a female. Depending on the gender the person identifies, as there is an expectation of how that person should look and act. The person identifying as the specific gender, must maintain the gender norms that are in place. These gender binaries are so prevalent in our lives; it is to the point where a large group of Americans are being overlooked. This group of Americans identifies as transgender, which means they do not fit society’s expectations of how a specific gender should look and behave. (gaycenter.org, 2012). The trans population does not fit the expected gender molds that are
There are several types of steroids. Steroids are in your body to help your body with stress and puberty; there are medical steroids and these are taken for pain, asthma, or a skin problem but, these aren’t the steroids that athletes are using to get ahead of the opponent. Athletes take anabolic steroids and they are artificially produced hormones. They are taken in forms of pills, injections, or powders. Steroids are illegal if you don’t have a prescription in your possession.
Throughout history, writing has had many various uses that have helped record information from history to the present day. Writing has obtained many different uses as to how and what we use writing today. When writing was formed in 3200 B.C. it was used to record and communicate. We have since then used writing for numerous issues such as recording information in which we may learn about the past, and for poetry or literature for people, both children and adults, to read and learn from. People throughout history and today even use writing for religious reasons such as writing out a prayer to God or even taking note on what has happened or talked of in the sermon.
