Background Information
Ms Matthews is the librarian for Brampton Manor School and she needs a
system to get new books into circulation and read by the pupils and
out of storage. She needs some sort of system that will allow her to
keep track of who has books and who doesn't, she also needs to be able
to do this quickly and with ease.
Possible solutions
==================
Her possible solutions are: creating a database, a spreadsheet, a
manual card system, or a written list of who has what.
Disadvantages
=============
Database and spreadsheet - Computer could break and information will
be lost, someone could also hack into the system, also, if the system
got a virus then the information could become damaged or lost
List and card system - List and cards may become burnt, lost or
stolen, it is also hard to keep a card system secure.
User requirements
=================
Ms Matthews needs her solution to be easy to use, easy to navigate
etc. She also needs to be able to enter new data, new records,
information on new books, who has brought back their book and what
books are being borrowed and notification if they have not been
returned by a certain date.

Software
I will use Microsoft Access Database to solve this problem for Ms
Matthews, as this is the only database package we have at out school.
It is easier to use Microsoft Access compared to Excel, as with Excel
it is not possible to create an easy navigation system (i.e. a menu)
and input forms. Also, with Excel there is no option to create your
own design
Hardware
I will need the following basic hardware to make my database:
§ Tower with hard drive and sufficient space
§ Monitor
§ Mouse
§ Keyboard
I may also need to use the following output options:
§ Screen - To view the database

Informal reading inventories will be efficient for direct observing and recording aspects of students reading skills....
Her first action was creating a book swapping program for the people in her area. Many women were stuck inside and unable to work, consequently bored and eager to be productive. Kamila and her sisters read just about every book in their house, then were unsure what to do next, so they created a system of book exchange through their house.
Maintain records: A binder will be kept for each student that will include calendars, records of grades, achievements, and disciplines documentation, if any. Additionally, A grade book in a soft copy will be kept that document student grades for each assignment. Detailed notes regarding progress will also be documented in the grade book, which will aid in creating intermittent progress reports to keep parents
Databases always used to fascinate me from my under graduation with great curiosity to know how large data is managed and queried. This led me to do Masters in computer science concentrating in the field of Data Management. In the course of my study, I understood the concepts of DBMS which provides a robust and efficient way of managing and mining data. Through the courses like Database Systems (ITCS 6160), Knowledge Discovery in Databases(ITCS 6162) and Knowledge Based Systems(ITCS 6155) I gained enough theoretical and practical knowledge about the importance of proper organization of data, good techniques to build an efficient database management system and how well the data can be managed.
“All she needs is some motivation. She has the smarts but she just pushes it off until a couple days before it’s due” said her mother while cooking dinner. “I never really gave it that much attention until I saw her always typing things into her computer day and night” she said. “I think she can do it a little earlier”

A new energy is rising within CNS. Over the past year, many members of our administrative computing team have been developing Oracle applications. It is a new challenge to both CNS and our clients. We journey up the learning curve together and over the trial-and-error hurdles. Each day offers a new opportunity to understand another concept or process.
RUSA’s (Reference and User Services Association, a division of ALA) Standards and Guidelines Committee revised the existing guidelines for Liaison work in 2009. The standards and guidelines help librarians identify users that can help in collection services and issues. They also identify objectives and continuing education opportunities for liaisons.
