All films ever made obtain certain elements that allow it to belong to a particular category of movie, or genre. These elements are already decided before the film is made, as the director can’t all of a sudden change his mind in the middle of production and change it from a comedy to a suspense thriller. Movie genres allocate disparity to audiences and let people choose what field of moviemaking most titillates their interests.

Borat is a film made with the sole purpose of being presented as a comedy. The movie picks apart tons of American-minded stereotypes and has the main character, Borat Sagdiyev, over exaggerate in reenacting or retelling them for one hell of a funny movie. The main elements of the film are all intended to be seen by an audience with a solid sense of humor. In this film, Borat introduces the audience to a whole new level of comedy. By making fun of one of America’s iconic figures, Pamela Anderson by calling her a whore after finding out she’s not a virgin, Borat emphasizes his attitude toward sexist views. He also has many “gay” encounters with other very hairy men. He tries to kiss the manager of the rodeo in Virginia who believes gays should be hanged. These are facets of comedy that are very much appreciated by today’s everyday moviegoer.

Borat does things that the normal American doesn’t have the balls to do, and the audience loves to see the unsuspecting victims’ reactions. He gawked at an attractive woman walking on the sidewalk and very bluntly asked “Very nice, very nice, how much?” Borat openly asks a random woman on the street how much he would have to pay her for sex, representing that this is and okay thing to do in Kazakhstan. At some point in his excursion, Borat ceases to have any money to allow him to have a place to sleep, forcing him to camp out on the grounds of a church entrance with a mediocre campfire for warmth. He is shut down of his pride and feels like he has nothing left to keep him going. He lost his friend, he has no money, and he terminated his overwhelming love for Pamela Anderson-a true tragedy in the audiences’ eyes.

Borat is a film of epic proportions. It won’t cease to continue to be a real marvel of comedy, an appealing documentary, and a heartrending tragedy. The audiences have spoken and the ultimate success of the movie has will forever be chased by copycats, although none will reach the top like Borat did.
