When Karl Marx wrote “the Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte,” he interpreted the historical stage and his writing of history as parts of a theatre: he writes; “Hegel remarks somewhere that all great world-historic facts and personages appear, so to speak twice. He forgot to add the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce. Caussidiere for Danton, Louis Blanc for Robespierre, the Montagne of 1848 to 1851 for the Montagne of 1793 to 1795, the nephew for the uncle. And the same caricature
described hybrid varieties (Blakely 1965). The genus is overwhelmingly endemic to the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Only seven species occur naturally outside the continent, mostly on the islands of Papua/New Guinea and the Indonisian island of Timor, and only two of these species are not represented on the Australian continent. Eucalyptus is classified in the family Myrtaceae and is a member of the mostly endemic, 26-genera subfamily Leptospermoideae (Beadle 1981). Eucalypt Diversity The
archipelago. Archipelago is a large group of islands. Indonesia is composed of more than 17, 000 islands. West Indonesian Time zone, East Indonesian Time Zone, and East Indonesian Time Zone are the three climate zones in Indonesia. Indonesia is geographically located between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Its area is slightly less than three times the state of Texas. Indonesia borders East Timor, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea. The climates in this country are tropical humid and tends to be more
McDougall (2001) mentions that the intensification of the violence in East Timor (1975), was a setback for Australia and Indonesia. He observes that there were numerous activities such as violation of laws, materials, arms and more. These activities were the cause of low defence between the two countries. There is evidence that states ‘towns were destroyed and many people were forced into the hills, or into neighbouring West Timor. Many East Timorese lost their lives’ (p. 94). With all these affairs,
Australia & The World Tsunami essay The 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami in the Asian region was a devastating event for the Region and the World alike and will go down in history as one of the worst widespread events the World has seen in recent years. In Australia it also had a great significance not only for the devastating Australian lives lost at such a significant time of year (Christmas) but also for the immediate and massive aid in which Australia provided proving its close ties with South East
services and facilities that safely dispose of human waste and maintain public hygiene”. (Watson, n.d). “Timor-Leste covers the eastern half of the island of Timor and includes Atauro Island located north of Dili, Jaco Island located on the easternmost end of the island and the enclave of Oecussi situated within Indonesia on the northwestern side of the island. It spans approximately 180km east west and 75km north south and has a land mass of approximately 14,610 square kilometers. According to the 2010
problems in the English translation and implications in the Tetun version has never been seriously questioned, perhaps, due to their lack of competence in Tetun language. Firstly, “Foho Ramelau” is a Tetun name of a mountain which is the highest one in Timor Island located roughly 70km away from the capital city, Dili. Its name in Mambae language, “Tatamailau” means “Grandfather of all.” This mountain has been a destination of pilgrimage by the Timorese people, traditionally as a place of ancestral worship
in a country that is at Civil war. A civil war is a war fought within a nation between that nations people. By sending peace troops to East Timor the United States is now becoming involved in this nations war. This could cause the United States to go to war. The arrival of multinational troops could bring more violence, destruction, and chaos to East Timor. On the other hand it could also bring protection to the many people who have fled the violence from the Indonesian Militia. Force should not
first in the UN’s 1992 “Human Development Index” (9). As I have already stated Canada is very well known for our many peacekeeping efforts. This is due to the many places our peacekeepers have been, or are at this very moment, such as Bosnia, East Timor and even Central Africa. These are just a very small portion of the places our peacekeepers are presently stationed. I am not even mentioning the dozens and dozens of other places they have been to. Our peacekeepers have helped save countless lives
East Timor was ruled by Portugal for about 17 centuries. During World War I, hundreds of East Timorese lost their lives helping Australia forces fight against the Japanese. East Timor was then invaded by Indonesia shortly after Portugal suddenly left in 1975, this was the day after U.S. President Ford’s visit to Indonesia, with what people have suspected as being a green light to invade. At that time, Indonesia had military, economic and political support from countries such as UK, USA and Australia
FP may be made with little reference to Parliament as it usually obtains bi-partisan support as recently exemplified by the outstanding Labor Party support for an additional Medicare levy to cover the costs of Australian peacekeeping forces in East Timor. Consequentially, FP is seldom a topic for elections as it does not directly affect the electorate, nor does it gather the same level of community participation or interest as many other policies. Christopher Columbus' Motivations to Sail West for the Indies Christopher Columbus lived in an age of Moslem expansion in the east. With the fall of Constantinople in 1453, direct land routes to the Indies were closed to European merchants and traders, thus creating the need to find a sea route to the Indies. Portugal had spent years sailing the coast of Africa to reach the Indies, but Columbus thought he had a better way: sailing west. With the defeat of the Moors in 1492 Queen Isabella
Red Rock West is a hood example of a new-age film noir. It has all the elements that are needed to make a film noir such as light and dark contrast, symbolic environment, the femme fatal, corruption, treachery, and deception. The film is unlike classic noir because of its use of color, irony, and humor in the movie. In the opening scene we get a sense of what Michael is like. He is driving a boat of a car across the barren desert, like he is scavenging for something. Strapped for money he stops at
obviously obsessed with weight, but how did this cultural craze with heaviness start? When and why, even? Are we the only ones? Peter N. Stearns is a Carnegie Mellon history professor and dean, and in his book Fat History: Bodies and Beauty in the Modern West, he explores and compares the weight-consciousness over the past century in both the United States (arguably the most obese Western country today) and France (arguably the slimmest); he also attempts at explaining why such contrariety exists between
during the early part of the 20th century, particularly those starring John Wayne reflected these societal attitudes. The Division between East and West in The Great Gatsby The division between East and West is a significant theme in The Great Gatsby. The author has projected the historical East/West division of the States on the division of class and society in the 20th century. The Mid-West, which represents the new territory of hope and the old pioneer spirit, corresponds to West Egg in New York. For Fitzgerald, there was a certain old-fashioned stability resting on the old, unchanging values and close
Compare and Contrast of the Love Stories Setting: Romeo and Juliet was set around 1954 which was Shakespeare's time period and was set in the city of Verona, Italy. Wheras West Side Story is set in the 1950's New York City where gangs were abundant. Pyramus and Thisbe was set in Ancient Greece. Plot: The plots are very much the same but are slightly altered to fit the time period that they were set in. One example of this is the names of Romeo and Juliet vs the other two plays. Juliet, Maria
Culture The West's Biggest Export? I spent a month over the summer of 2002 trekking in Borneo with a team of 15 other boys from my school. This was the first time that I had traveled outside England, my home, to a destination that was not geared towards hosting tourists. The expedition provided me with a very interesting perspective on the march of developed culture across the globe. The tourism industry is simply one example of this expansion, but it is an interesting example because it is
Romeo and Juliet versus West Side Story Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story, two timeless dramas that will live forever. Although both of these stories have many similarities, there are also many differences. These differences include the differences in sililoquy, the fact that Maria doesn't die, the fact that we never see Tony or Maria's parents, as well as the issues of marriage, the importance of gangs and families to each story. To understand these differences, I have read and/or
Going out west last summer was one of the most exciting and interesting things I have ever done in my life. When my mom first told me about the trip I was only really excited about going on the airplane. But when we got there, I was in for a big surprise. One of the worst parts of the trip was that my family and I had to wake up at 3:00 AM to catch the plane in Manchester. We flew from Manchester to Cleveland Ohio, and then from Cleveland to Salt Lake City, Utah. I had a lot of fun on the plane
