In the Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball, Chuck is a vital character in the movie who symbolizes innocence. Chuck is the youngest boy in the Glade and he is a bit on the chubby side as well. These characteristics alone already differentiate Chuck from the rest of the boys. Chuck befriended Thomas the first day he was welcomed to the Glade. Throughout the movie, Chuck portrays his innocence by believing in Thomas’s abilities, choosing not to participate in savage-like practices, and dying at the hands
authorities. Thomas’ danger seeking personality has led him to become a runner, meaning that he, along with some other kids from the Glade, run through the booby trapped maze in an attempt to map it. The name Maze Runner suits this book because running through mazes is a pretty big part of the story, but its also a little simple. A title that mentioned the brainwashed kids, or the Glade that the majority of the book was set in would potentially fit better.

2013 Quarter 2 Synthesis IRP: The Maze Runner and Unfamiliar Situations The book I chose to write a synthesis essay comparing my life to is The Maze Runner by James Dashner. The book is about a boy named Thomas who wakes up in a place called the Glade which he has never seen before, and is surrounded by new places, people, and events that he is completely unfamiliar with. Thomas doesn’t remember much about before he woke up there, and at first he feels alone and uncomfortable with his new surroundings
The Maze Runner is a movie based on the young-adult novel of the same name, written by James Dashner. The movie, like the book, follows a young man named Thomas, who finds himself trapped in an enclosed area called the Glade, surrounded by an enormous Maze. All the people in the Glade are young men, and all, including Thomas, arrived there remembering nothing but their names. A few boys, called Runners, search the Maze daily for a way out, but to no avail. Horrible creatures called Grievers roam the
like the coincidence that the day after Thomas arrives, not only does another member immediately arrive, but a female. Throughout the maze history, as far back as the keepers could recall, there had never been a girl Greenie (someone who’s new to the Glades). The keepers of the maze were also shocked at what Thomas was capable of, and what he had brought to the table. Within the first couple of days, Thomas sees an opening in the maze walls right as they are closing and takes a courageous plunge into
thing that happens in this book is Thomas gets sent up to the glade. He discovers how the glade works and meets a lot of the people that have been sent to the glade just like him. During his 2nd day on the glade a girl is sent up. The very first girl to live in the glade and also the last person to be sent up the glade. While everyone is doing their daily work Thomas goes exploring in the forests that surround some parts of the glade. While he's in the forest, he runs into their graveyard. Then while
In the beginning, the main character, Thomas, has his memory wiped so he doesn’t know anything. Over time though, he begins to accept where he is (the Glade) and that the people in the Glade have nothing but each other. Thomas also adapts to the Glade’s slang, and talks like a Glader. He also saves the lives of some Gladers who are his friends, such as Alby. At the end Thomas became a sort of leader, trying to make the best decisions when the rest of the Gladers didn’t know what to do. Thomas talks
with teamwork you can accomplish anything and it is always better to work together. This theme is shown throughout the book for instance when Thomas went out into the maze to find Minho and Alby while knowingly breaking the number one rule in the Glade (109). He sacrificed his own reputation and safety to help his friends. Once inside the maze, Thomas is Minho rejects his help by saying “And what good are you with us?” [Break the number one rule, kill yourself] (113), after realizing that if they

Everyday the walls of the Glade close to protect Gladers from getting eaten by massive monsters that live in the Maze called Grievers who usually came out at night. Each month a new boy was sent to the Glade in the Box. Every week supplies are delivered in the Box for the Gladers to use. Thomas meets the leaders
made it confusing , and I was impress because it only took the side effect of a substance to trigger a memory. Meanwhile Thomas and the leader of the runners were looking at a replica of the maze made by the leader after spending three years in the glade. Thomas decide to go in the other section of the maze which was unexplored to see if there is a possible exit. I was very amazed to see that when they went in there Thomas had a feeling of déjà vu more like he recognized the sign on the wall. I was
to find a way to escape. In the beginning of this book, Thomas comes up to the Glade from a box. He doesn't know who he is or why he is in the Glade and Thomas has lost his memory about all the things he knew before getting in the Glade. Thomas now sees all these kids looking down at him and meets Alby. He also meets a friend Chuck and he is very nice to Thomas unlike everyone else. After Thomas gets a tour of Glade from Alby, Thomas doesn't know what the "maze" or the "walls" are. Next, a girl
The teen boy is the new boy and is given a nickname of greenie. He remembers nothing and can’t remember his name either. This place he arrives in is called the glade and is enclosed by four tall walls. All the boys in the glade got here the same way greenie did. greenie remembers his name as Thomas. Thomas learns that the work in the glade is divided among the boys. Some are cooks, others care for animals, and a few are runners. The boys in this story use agricultural science to survive off the land
large maze with large walls called the Glade, and have been surviving there for years. Also, Thomas understands that there memory has been erased when they arrived at the glade. Having little time to understand what is going on Thomas must fit into their lifestyle, therefore he is introduced to one of the boys in the Labyrinth named
In The Maze Runner, Thomas and a bunch of other guys from the glade are stuck in a giant maze with no way out. Thomas is the main character and this is how he follows the hero’s journey and becomes a hero. Reasons are Call to adventure, Ordeal, Death\, and rebirth, Crossing the threshold. Call to adventure is the first reason why Thomas follows the hero’s journey. Thomas is a hero in this because he got a call to adventure just like any other hero would. Thomas talks to chuck, Chuck tells him
] He couldn’t think of one person he knew, or recall a single conversation” (Dashner 2). He cannot remember his family, or even where he came from. That’s a weird “birth” story from the get-go. The Box is a metal lift located in the center of the Glade that brings weekly supplies to the Gladers, but also a new Glader every month. No one knows anything about it or who controls it. It comes from a dark and deep hole, seemingly endless.
surrounded by a bunch of boys. Like all the other Gladers, Thomas appears in the Glade terrified and disoriented. However, he senses a powerful bond to the Maze. He quickly exhibits courage and confidence when he saves Alby and Minho from the Grievers after they had to spend the night in the Maze. Most of the boys lost hope of getting out of the Maze and were working on surviving within the safe area of the Glade. Thomas taught me that while we can't really control where we start in life, we can
illustrate the theme of bravery in the novel, especially Thomas, after his arrival at the Glade. Thomas has the courage to take risks, such as going into the Maze at night to save Minho and Alby. His bravery gives him the opportunity to open up to his talents and abilities which allow him and his friends to grow and discover the mysteries of the Maze and their past lives. When we think of bravery in the Glade, we only think of the physical bravery, but bravery is also the state of showing courageous
