friendship between the two. This happy ending is another characteristic of a typical comedy (Zanuck, Zanuck, & Beresford, 1989). The film, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989), is a great example of a comedy. It is classified as a type of parody, known as a lampoon or satire. The movie originated from the creators of a humor magazine known as National Lampoon. The magazine began releasing films in 1978, all with comedy as the genre. According to Everything’s an Argument by Andrea A. Lunsford and John J. Ruszkiewicz, “Humor has always played an important role in argument…” (38). Humor itself is something that activates amusement or laughter. Moreover, in popular culture satire is a tool that is used to point out things in our society. Satire opens the minds of people to philosophies they might completely deny, using humor. There are many elements of satire that identify flaws within our society. A couple of satire elements that
movies that he has starred in consist of; Funny Farm, European Vacation, Hotel Hell Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Vegas Vacation, and Vacation. Throughout the late seventies and early eighties, Chase became very famous as a comedy for his films, and his anchorman bit on SNL. Most of the sequels to his best films, never made it big. The only strand of films he was in that stayed big through all of them was, the National Lampoon's’ Vacation movies. Other films of his that the sequels failed were films
