Judge Learned Hand was a judge at the US District Court level who decided on the two court cases Masses Publishing Co. v. Patten and Nearing v. United States, both involving the Espionage and Sedition Acts of 1918. The Espionage and Sedition Acts limited what papers and people could say, especially during war times.
