On March 21, I attended Band & Jazz Concert at Lindhurst High School. This event was free for audience to attend and it took place in the gym from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Five different groups performed at this concert, and I attended the whole concert. Yuba College Jazz Ensemble performed second. Their performance was supposed to be conducted by Cookie Molina, but due to family emergency, it was conducted by Dr. Allan Miller. This group was of 17 members. They performed four stylistically different pieces
Jazz Concert Review I enjoy and listen to variety of music from classical music to rap music. I have attended many concerts, mostly symphony bands concerts. However, interestingly, through whole my life, I have never experienced jazz music and I have never been to jazz concert. Therefore, it was hard for me to decide which jazz concerts would give me most pleasure and exciting experience. I researched for jazz concerts listing and I have decided to go to the Ron Eschete Trio Concerts because
The first question I asked myself at the beginning of the quarter was how much do I actually know about jazz? I have always characterized jazz music as a rhythmic and instrumental form of music. My impression on the basis of the jazz has always been portrayed with the African-American race. I think this was build up from the rhythm ‘n’ blues era and meaning according to the dictionary (“style of music that was invented by African American musicians in the early part of the twentieth century and has
I was fortunate to be able to attend the Spring Jazz Gala at the High School. Before entering the auditorium or even the school, I had high expectations that this would be like one of the concerts I used to perform in when I was in High School. We called it “Night at the Pops”. One of the highlights of our concert was the informal attire. We got to wear jeans and a different colored t shirt each year. The fun thing about the t-shirt is many people in band and choir designed a new design each
Variety of Jazz Music The live performance I had the pleasure of attending was at Queens College LeFrak Concert Hall. It was Jazz Master Degree Graduation Recital concert in May. 05, 2016, at 3.00 pm. This was one of the few times I have ever attended to Jazz performance. I enjoyed every moment when I was sitting in the hall. There were not many people coming to the concert. The audiences were mostly like professors, friends or families of performers. The stage was set up with basic jazz instruments
On last Sunday night, I attended the live jazz concert which was performed by The Mike Glisatus Big Band featuring Duane Lawrence. The performance venue is a restaurant named Angelica’s in Redwood City. Since I went into the restaurant, I knew it is the perfect place to enjoy the live concert because the warm atmosphere and gentle style of the restaurant made people easily feel relax to enjoy the music. We had our own table, and the Big Band was on the stage in front of us. Though I did not specialize
Robel Haile 10/09/2017 MUS 114 Professor Richard Armandi Concert Writing Assignment On Monday, October 09, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. the UIC Jazz Ensemble’s performance highlighted the music of two giants of the big band tradition, Count Basie and Thad Jones. The concert lasted about one hour. It started at 7:30 p.m. and went on till about 8:40p.m. There were seven songs that were performed. Every song was around ten minutes long. Some were a little bit shorter, about five to six minutes in length, and a
On October 23, 2017, I attended a jazz concert at the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center. This concert was a celebration of the music of Freddie Hubbard. Freddie Hubbard was an Indianapolis native and a jazz legend. According to the program I received before the performance, Freddie Hubbard had a unique trumpeting style that characterized him as being one of “the most influential [trumpet players] to come out of the 1960s”. The band that played was a quartet composed of a saxophonist, a bassist,
Attending for the first time at a jazz concert was a great experience; it was performed at the Wolfson Campus. The instruments that took part of it were the drums, piano, saxophone and bass. The piano was the one that mostly called my attention, the pianist was Lynne Arriale, even though at first she had troubles adjusting the amplifier, the melody and rhythm of it was perfect, it made me want to follow the rhythm during the whole concert. The swing and syncopation, improvisation, bent notes and
Jazz is a music genre that is very rich in culture which is why I decided to attend a Jazz concert. This was my first Jazz event I had ever been to. I went to see the band The Chairman and the Board. This was a blues swing band. Having been to other concerts, I was expecting something similar as far as atmosphere and crowd. I was proved very wrong as this concert defied all my expectations and was in a whole different field as far as life entertainment goes. The first thing I noticed right off the
On Monday, October 3, 2016 I was privileged to attend the fabulous performance by the Pittsburg State University Jazz Band at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts in Pittsburg Kansas. It was a beautiful evening filled with fantastic music. The concert featured many well-rehearsed songs, talented solos, and enjoyable evening for everyone who attended. The evening opened with a nice pieced titled, Time After Time. The song opened with a guitar solo performed by Tyler Jones from Baxter Springs,
Missouri Western Jazz Ensemble concert on February 3. I can thoroughly say I enjoyed the performance. For being a rather small band, less than twenty members, they certainly packed a very large sound. To me the band sounded as though it was very well rehearsed. There seemed no lack of confidence in there playing; you could tell they knew and enjoyed playing the songs. All of these factors made it very entertaining to watch this ensemble. I would consider myself somewhat unfamiliar with jazz type music
attended “The Spring Jazz Collaboration” featuring the “CSI Jazz Combo”, “Swing Band”, and “Madrigal Ensemble” on March 9th. At first I thought it was just going to be three people playing the saxophone, the drums, and the bass. I was obviously wrong. Each song had their unique sound. I really liked how each musician had their own solo because it helped me hear the instrument and know what they sound like and that’s coming from a person who had never experienced a Jazz concert. The concert was broken up
The Key Players performed at the Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham. The concert lasted approximately an hour and a half and seven pieces were performed. The program included many original songs as well as a few covers from Stevie Wonder and Louis Armstrong. This performance was quite different from the last concert I attended, in that it was a much different style of jazz. Yoron Israel and The Key players concert was very entertaining. However, it was not only the music but also several different
2016, there was a combo jazz ensemble that performed at the Florence Kopleff Recital Hall. The jazz ensemble consisted of Josh Holland on trumpet, Andrew Venet on bass, J. Paul Whitehead on piano, and Ryan McDaniel on drums. The songs that they performed that night were; “Blue Bossa” by Joe Henderson, “My Funky Valentine” by Joshua Holland, “My One and Only Love” by Gut Wood, and “Jig-a-Jug” by Joshua Redman. Throughout the night, they played a combination of combo jazz and bossa nova. The Florence
Evening of Jazz” concert held at the Fine Arts Hall on November 17 at 7:30 p.m. The performing groups were The Santa Fe Rhythm and Blues Review, The Santa Fe Jazz Combo, and Santa Fe Big Band. The event was to for me to understand, experience Jazz music and know the instruments used. Jazz is referred as “America’s classical music,” and is one of North America’s and most celebrated genres. The history of Jazz can be traced back to the early era of the 20th century of the U.S. “A History of Jazz” presents
attending a jazz concert in San Antonio I can say I really had a memorable experience. My jazz concert had taken place on September 27th at the Esquire Tavern in downtown San Antonio at the 3pm. The band that was performing was called the Doc Watkins Trio in which I later found out was a branch of the South Texas Jazz. When I had finally arrived and soon later consulted with the musicians it came to my attention it wasn’t the actual band but musicians that do perform for South Texas Jazz. I was not
The concert I chose to attend was a jazz concert. I felt like jazz might be the best beginning choice for me because it’s relatively easier to understand than some of the other music types. Emotions seem to be more easily communicated in jazz and the message conveyed is often easier to recognize. Also, the exciting and lively mood jazz music gives off instantly attracted me to choosing this genre to attend a concert for. The second piece played, “Sue’s Changes”, was one I particularly liked. It was
In November the 7th 2017, I had another privilege of attending a jazz performance at The School of Jazz, New York. The concert was organized primarily by graduate students who majored in music, and as a result of this, the concert had a number of blossoming musicians who provided the audience with an assortment of different music combos. Unlike in the orchestra, the performers and audience at the jazz concert where dressed casually and there was no particular dress code. What I found interesting
For this critique, I was fortunate enough to attend a jazz performance by Deborah Davis and Ben Rosenblum. Davis was the vocalist and Rosenblum was the pianist. This concert was part of a jazz concert series presented by Preservation New Jersey and the New Jersey Jazz Society. I enjoyed this performance because I was able to witness a professional pianist play up close in a relaxed setting. I was seated in the second pew of the sanctuary, directly in view of Rosenblum’s hands as he performed. This
