In the state of Texas, there are more than four bills that are already put into place regulating the use of text messages while driving. As of now, the ban on texting while driving only pertains to certain groups of drivers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states that texting while driving is prohibited for drivers who are in school zones, under the age of eighteen, and for bus drivers when they have minors on board. Forty-one of the fifty states have laws banning texting while driving for some or all drivers (Insurance Institute for High way Safety). I strongly agree with such laws because, although one might be an expert of texting while driving, texting is still a distraction from the act of driving, which could be the deciding factor of whether or not the road is safe for others to drive. Driving in itself is a dangerous act that is made more dangerous through the use of handheld electronic devices.
