Recommended: Technology and its influence in education

“Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow”(Pollard). William Pollard had it right, even in the 1800’s. At the time, no one could fathom the expanse at which technology would develop. However, we now see that technology, namely electronics, have become very prevalent in the classroom environment. We have become so dependent upon our smart phones, computers and tablets; it is difficult to remember life without them. Especially today, technology is continuing to integrate itself into our lives so easily that we eat up the newest technological model within days of its release. With such a large dependence on technology, students need proper education on the proper use, the benefits of and the consequences of plagiarism. And the even more appropriate question, when do we begin implementing technology in the classroom?
With the extent of information, the Internet is the most popular source used by the current generation of students. We begin using some of the basic programs very early on. With the progression of technology, we have gone from basic typing games to early child education programs such as ABC mouse, an online learning program that children can begin using from as early as one-year-old up into their early elementary school years (Leer). The children who have used this program are more likely to have a better grasp on the uses of technology in general. The association of technology and learning at such a young age will leave a lasting impression with this group that will greatly enhance their ability to use electronics for education purposes.
