Times are forever changing, and things in life is constantly evolving to something better or something more efficient ,especially technology. College campuses are overflowing with students packing Blackberry,iPod's, laptops and cellphones. College student are obsessed with the latest technology and in today classroom such technology's capture the audience. Moreover, as a learning institution, a college hold's the responsibility to offer it's student the best technology to help them prepare for their future. In “Facing the Facebook” written by Micheal Bugeja the professor examines the ethical and educational effect of the time student spend online. In addition, technology could be undermining the educational goal of critical thinking while inspiring multitasking, which cause “as much of a distraction as a tool.” Social networks like Facebook contribute to the distractions while in class. However, the learning process for student has changed dramatically, plus, technology is used in many aspect for teaching. With the amount knowledge that student are required to retain, technology can add convenience, confidence and skill's to aid in the learning process and life.
Having technology as a tool for college brings convenience to students. Most colleges professor's require student to submit reports which play's a major part of their overall grade. In addition, resources like the internet are use to obtain information need for projects and reports. Instead of rigorous research being done in the library, the internet is utilized as a research tool from the comfort of a home or dorm. Futhermore, Student are able to send emails to teacher to obtain quick answer while studying and also submit report when they are complete. Certainly...

...teacher allow the first or last five minutes of class to check for update on twitter or Facebook this would reduce the temptation while in class. Indeed, consequence could also be put in place if student are caught abusing these site while in class.
All in all, moving forward is just the way of how thing are done in life, moving backwards to most is just not a option. Technology is a aspect that will be very beneficial for our future so we must embrace these advancement with the utmost acceptance. Furthermore, such acceptance creates a learning experience complete with instant support from peer and teacher's to aid student furtherance through moments of frustration to excel in their studies. This is the only way to terminate assumption or bias and bring about a change or a new way of doing things. .

Just spending some time in the modern-day classroom; I have observed several students on their phones. During my high school years we did not have to worry about cell phones or laptops being a constant problem. In Annie Murphy Paul’s “You’ll Never Learn!” she explains the studies of multitasking while students do their homework with the modern-day distraction of the digital age; resulting in a lower quality of learning. I agree with Paul that the digital age is becoming a problem in education, even though educators are leaning towards teaching on a digital spectrum. In this essay, I will explain how a digital age versus a non-digital age is effecting everyone involved in a higher education.
Some believe that ‘Social networking sites help students do better at school. 59% of students with access to the Internet report that they use social networking sites to discuss educational topics and 50% use the sites to talk about school assignments” (Procon) However, “If the students checked Facebook just once during the 15-minute study period, they had a lower grade-point average”. (Clemmitt) This shows that social media is the main source of distraction which does not allow individuals to focus on their academic work. This is harmful to society because individuals will not be able to completely focus on a task. Thus individuals would complete their tasks with little thought on how they are doing it. Procon has also mention that “People who use social media have a lower grade point average (3.02) social media than people who don't use social media. (3.82) they also tend to get lower test grades”. This shows that the impact social media had on students’ academic career is negative. With a low grade point average students feel no need to push themselves which leads to low self-motivation. Even though some may argue that Social Media has led to educational opportunities, others may argue that it is has done more damage to academics
During the last decades, laptops have become standard learning tools in university and college classrooms. Since today’s students’ are high-technology demanding and tech savvy, laptops manufacturers and engineers are constantly thinking of unique ways to design their products. With advanced functions and specifications, laptops can do various activities and educational tasks for students. Also, as technology advances, yesterday’s laptops are less expensive compared to today’s and tomorrow’s which allows every student to afford a laptop. However, educational institutions are concern about whether laptops in class hinder or facilitate students’ learning. Overtime, new technology and devices have been noticed to weaken student performance in class, especially laptops. Laptops have posed problems to student learning by offering opportunities to do non-course-related activities in class and causes inefficient note-taking with health risks and teachers are misguided on how to effectively equip them in lectures. As laptops are increasingly used, student learning regresses in classrooms. This inverse relationship has caused educational institutes to support banning laptops from the classroom so that they can have a better approach in assisting students learning.
I think your post is interesting, and I take my experience when I started college for the first time. I realized that it was important to understand and use technologies to survive in college, because everything begins to change and needed to use technology to get through the classes and learn a more information. Technology gives us the opportunity to have easy access to search for jobs and directions to gain more knowledge. But like everything technology also have good thing and bad for example in my case I was a person that learned people phone by heart as soon I used dial the number but now see everything is program in my phone I just had touch the screen and that’s it. What I do to trying to maintain that I dial people
Professors could define a goal or objective of what the student will learn or understand during lecture. As Jane explains, “a goal is the specific outcome that players will work to achieve. It focuses their attention and continually orients their participation throughout the game,” (McGonigal 30). Focusing students’ attention on the lecture rather than their Facebook feeds is exactly what professors need to do. Giving them a specific goal will guide their efforts and concentration towards completing this goal. This will also help a student succeed in identifying and understanding the more crucial material necessary for the course and facilitate academic success. Eliminating media distractions will create more productive and logical learning processes and produce more competent future professionals.
Teachers and students have to handle everyday distractions in classroom environments. These distractions are sometimes present while the student is encoding information and/or when they are required to retrieve the information for tests. Even in the best-controlled classrooms, distractions will inevitably enter the classroom environment (Beaman, 2005). Auditory distractions have been shown to inhibit the ability to recall semantically related words (Oswald, Tremblay, & Jones, 2000). This is a vital component for a student’s comprehension of many learning tasks in a school environment.
Is technology a distraction to teens? Yes teens are distracted by technology, technology is everywhere. Technology is a distraction because teens like to text and drive or use their phone while driving which causes car accidents. Technology is also a distraction to teens because their up all night long on their phones or any other technology so they get a lack of sleep and can’t focus the next day. Another way how technology distracts the teen is they get distracted with their technology while doing their homework because their to focus on their phone and no so much of their homework. Technology is a big distraction to many teens around the world.
Individuals should understand that the use or nonuse of social media has negative and positive effects on their lives whether they recognize them or not. Students who excessively use social networking applications can be negatively affected because they are spending too much time on these applications rather than paying attention in class, completing homework, studying, s...
In the world we live in today almost everyone in the world is using computers. Whether it is surfing the web on your phone or computer. Since technology is such a dominant part of life these days many schools are starting to join in. More and more schools are starting to buy laptops, iPads, and other electronic devices for their students. Some educators believe that computer access in school is a good thing; others believe that they may interfere with the learning process. There are pros and cons to computer access in school. While I go to a school that provides macs for the students, which in many ways is beneficial for me, I believe that it does interfere with the learning process. The reason that I believe the use of computers in schools is disadvantageous is because they are distracting in the classroom, cheating is more likely to increase, and it is very easy for students to engage in plagiarism.
Using technology within a curriculum, gives students, many choices that they need to decide on like how to generate, obtain, manipulate, and to also display information. Writing this research paper is an excellent example of how all these criteria are met. One must generate information from external sources, manipulate the data with multiple supporting examples, and put everything together into a well suited essay. Students learn a lot by processing the information independently with their own mindset creativity and thinking out of the box. As always, there are some students that decide to make the wrong choices that set the student off track. Many of these distractions come from various social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, and other
To begin, there have been many speculations about social media and how the effects it has on grades. Stated by Lomeli, “some students would rather Facebook then do their homework. There is a lot of time lost due to social media”. As Lomeli said, "some students spend six to eight hours per day on social media, such as Facebook, while completing their homework. Doing work and using a social media at the same is a huge distraction. “Students who use social media had an average GPA of 3.06 while non-users had an average GPA of 3.82 and students who used social networking si...
In conclusion, technology has changed education for the better allowing access to unlimited resources, distance learning and broadening the means of communication. Technology creates a more encouraging environment and stimulates students to engage in something they may be familiar with. Technology has allowed people to know more and to collaborate with each other. Students have a great range of technologies which strengthens the relationship between knowledge and students. The technology used today throughout the world will only strengthen and advance the 21st century education system. With unlimited resources, students can take advantage of their learning and gain the most from it. Integrating technology into education promotes a better learning community.
Students begin to rely more on information easily accessible on social networking sites and websites. This reduces the ability of learning and research.
Technology has had a huge impact on education. It continues to shape the way we learn and what we learn today and in the future. As technology advances, so does the quality of education and that is nothing but good news for the students of today and of the future.
Another benefit in which a computer students is that it makes quicker decisions for students. Instead of going to the library students can go on different Websites to find more information on a book. Students can also make quicker decision by getting advice from a website. Also it makes life a whole lot easier than you can count on the Internet. Students find that using computers has made their life easier by finding the Internet quicker. For example myself I find it a lot easier and quicker because when I have softball games I take my laptop on the bus and find important information that I need. Computers come in handing when you need them. It has made students finish there work quicker then you expect. Computers has made everyone’s life easier and quicker. ( Neulieb, Christine. Web). Computers are quicker because it has so many websites it can get you to them quickly and gives you information that you need.
