“Smoking decreases a person's life expectancy by 10 - 12 years” (Newman). Smoking cigarette is a substance that burn and is tasted, inhale or both. Smoking is also as addictive and harmful as cocaine, heroin, alcohol, and many other injurious drug. Smoking cigarette is bad for health, however it can be stopped by higher taxes, smoke-free places, and laws that prohibit smoking when there are children around.

Smoking is injurious to health which can cause anyone deadly diseases. “Tar in cigarette smoke paralyzes the cilia in the lungs” (Newman). The parts in cigarettes have different causes to y health which is a dark thick flammable liquid distilled from wood or coal, causing of a mixture of hydrocarbons, resins, alcohol and other compound. Also, research states, “Smoking triples the risk of developing thyroid disease ” (Newman). This can be contagious which can happen to a second-hand smoker. Additionally,” Smoking also reduces sperm density and their motility, increasing the risk for infertility’’ (Newman). Fourthly, “Smoking double the risk of ischemic stroke” (Newman). The ischemic stroke reduces blood flow to the brain which can cause a person death. Moreover, “50% of young deaths, below age 65 from heart disease are caused by smoking” (Newman). The reason is because of the harmful chemical and ingredients in the cigarette. Finally, Smoking can give people deadly effects that can change anyone’s life in the future.

A solution to prevent having smokers smoke is having higher taxes on cigarette packs. Research states, Federal tax rate per pack imposed in 2009: $1.01(By the Numbers: Smoking Bans and Tobacco industry). Because of the tax rate per pack, an increase would lower the number of smokers smoking. Secondly, research also, shows the proposed federal tax rate per pack: $1.95 (By the Numbers: Smoking Bans). The increase of the cigarette pack tax will encourage new smokers like teenagers to not to smoke. Furthermore, “90 % of new smokers are children and teenagers” (Newman). Because of low tax of cigarette pack there would be an increase of new smoker. Increasing tax rate of cigarette per pack will help smokers stay away from deadly diseases.

Another solution for preventing smoking is to ban smoking at places like schools, colleges and indoor spaces and also ban adjectives like “mild” and “light”. Not to mention, researchers found out “Colleges that have chosen to be smoke free: 43” (By the Numbers: Smoking Bans). If there would be more smoke free colleges then it will not only help the smoker quit smoking but also won’t harm the non-smoker.
