“School Uniforms: Yes, or No”
The concept of having school uniform is a topic that has been debated fir any years. Some students find uniforms necessary, others just hate the colors. I think that the students who think uniforms are unnecessary are wrong. Uniforms are an excellent idea and can help school students be more disciplined, have an equal environment, and enjoy greater academics. School uniforms are a great way to maintain a level of social equality. There are more positive effects of wearing school uniforms than negative. School uniform makes student’s lives easier because it eliminates the job of spending hours on picking out clothes for school. First, having school uniform maintains discipline in school. Wearing different clothing to school distracts students. School uniform help decrease the conflicts that arise out of arguments of fashionable clothes. If a child is wearing simple clothing, then he/she will get bullied. So, if everyone wears the same clothes, then know one will know who is poor and who is rich and no one will get bullied. Many student con...
Having some sameness can create a safe environment in schools. Having school uniforms can help decrease in-school violence, theft rates and gang colors. School uniforms can also eliminate distraction that clothes can cause. According to a study done at a Long Beach middle school overall school crime decreased by 36% when they enforced a mandatory program. If people did not have to wear school uniforms gang rates may go up, theft rate would be higher and it would help the school see who belongs at school and who doesn’t. You need school uniforms to have a safe environment for people to teach and learn.
Officials say that students feel happier when they don’t have to worry about their clothes. Which would help students focus in class better. Virginia Draa, assistant professor at Youngstown state university took a survey with students with uniforms and students without uniforms. Her results were fascinating, she said that even if their wasn’t that much of an academic improvement. But she said there were better attendance, graduation and Proficiency rates. It is proven that uniforms not only help for graduation and other rates it also helps to gain discipline. Having uniforms in school would help students take school more seriously. Students would feel equal in class because there wouldn’t be any differences in clothing.
Many parents believe that uniforms will only stifle the students creativity. They will not be allowed to freely express themselves with the colors that they wear as well as the clothing itself. If a child is feeling particularly happy that day, he or she may want to wear their favorite outfit to express themselves and the way that they feel. If all students wear uniforms, the entire school will all look exactly the same, which takes away all creativity and suppresses individuality.
It is a great idea for schools to implement a policy on school uniforms because statistics show that students who wear uniforms make better grades, the male students are not going to be distracted by what the female students are (or aren't) wearing, and students feel a sense of fairness with one another as they are all wearing the same things and when students are at one with one another their confidence soars, which leads to doing better at school. Student uniforms helps with reducing the amount of bullying therefore the students who would normally be bullied now have a much better disposition while at school, which will lead to a healthier safer learning environment. When students feel less threatened at school, they can concentrate better which leads to better grades. The schools which have an enforced uniform policy have properly dressed students. When teenage girls, want to impress teenage boys dress inappropriately it causes a lot of distractions and trouble. The girls are also envious of on one another so unrest is caused in the classroom throughout the day, not only with the boys who are looking at the girls, but also at the girls who are jealous of the ones getting the attention.
Why has uniformity in dress became a positive instead of a negative in society? Argument after argument, the issue of school uniforms is a debate people will always have a difference of opinion on. Many people disagree that school uniforms should exist and many others agree. School uniforms have several beneficial factors. For example, wearing uniforms in schools can promote a sense of equality and promote safety belonging among students. School uniforms not only time savers for school staff, but students and parents as well.
...n will improve on student’s successes. It also helps from building gangster group when they wearing the uniforms because people would notice which school they go when they see them on the street. Over the fashion clothes, students do not need to compare each other for the famous brands. They don’t need to think what to wear every day. However, some of the parents still think it did not have their child individual’s right and support the uniform policy. People do not notice that school uniform is a lot more convenient than having the dress code policy. Even the courts are more support the school uniform than dress code policy. The dress code policy has a lot of rules to obey in contrast the uniform just have to wear what kind clothes schools provide. Wearing the school uniforms, make students stay more disciplined and focus in their studies and feels less pressure.
In society today, school-age children are under tremendous pressure to fit in with their peers and still perform well academically. I believe that school uniforms in pre-K through high school levels is an excellent way to help children succeed not only in school, but to prepare them for college and the “real world.” Three reasons why I believe school uniforms should be used in all schools is first, they are economic, next, they reduce distractions and finally, they help with social equality.
Mentioned in Pros and Cons of School Uniforms, “When children wear their own clothes into school, this then becomes a time for them to judge each other, so it prevents competition and teasing” (Pros and Cons of School Uniforms). When you have school uniforms you won’t be wearing different things so you will become more equal. If the students are equal, it then reduces judgement and bullying between the students and makes the school a better place. Another positive statement on how school uniforms are beneficial comes from, Pros and Cons of School Uniforms, “Many educators believe that students who wear school uniforms perform better academically in school, and a study done in 1988 by Notre Dame shows a slight statistical evaluation in student performances among students who wear uniforms” (LoveToKnow). School uniforms will remove the clothing distraction and increase the amount of time given to the academics. Some students take time in the morning to get ready for school, uniforms will allow that time for sleep and studies. According to Procon.org, “Parents can reduce their financial burden when their children are limited to wearing one outfit everyday” (ProConorg Headlines). You won’t feel the pressure to buy clothes that are in style, or expensive and trendy. Uniforms are easier to maintain. They tend to last longer and can be washed easier than other clothes. Wearing school uniforms create a community of higher educated students and equality to
School uniforms should be part of the school systems, because statistics had shown that students who wear uniforms are doing better than dress codes. More students also feel a sense of equality among each other and there are fewer judgments of others. It allows teacher quickly to identify people who do not belong in the building and limit the ways that gangs can identify themselves. School outfit provides students identity, individual spirit, and pride. Uniforms are increasing throughout different schools. School uniforms make students look more formal, and progressively affects student’s self-esteem, discipline, and safety, and develops students be more confident of what they can achieve in life.
By requiring school uniforms in public schools, education will be improved. A dress code will enforce discipline toward learning. Uniforms improve a person’s outlook toward success. Students generally act the way they are dressed. With fewer distractions, students see the school as a workplace for teaching and learning. Students also have less stress in their lives because they are not in a fashion competition. Dress codes also lead to a change in grades. Mainly this happens because the student’s attendance comes up. There is also a change in grades because it is easier to focus when everyone looks alike.
To have uniforms mandatory in public schools would have many reasons why it would be beneficial to not only students, but also parents and teachers. A benefit of having school uniforms would be that uniforms would reduce clothing costs and stress for parents by not having to spends hundreds of dollars each year on their children so that they can keep up with the latest fashions and trends. Another perk would be that most of the time uniforms reduce bullying among students by eliminating the bullying surrounding students preferred clothing choices. They could also be less distracted in school from looking at their peers’ clothes. Students who come from poorer families would not stand out or be judged by the students who are more fortunate. With uniforms, teachers would not have to make the tough decisions of what clothing is appropriate for students to wear. School uniforms also reduces fighting and theft in schools where gangs and poverty is common.
Picture in your mind, a world where no student is stressed about how they look. A world where a child is judged not by their clothing or social standing, but by their character and their willingness to learn. This world you just imagined could one day be achieved by letting children learn first and establish their place in the school hierarchy later. You may be asking yourself, ‘How could this possibly become reality?’ (Latham) Well, we can look at several schools in China, such as Hong Kong Academy the third highest scoring secondary school in the country, to see that they associate the school uniform to their school’s success. If the highest academically rated schools are advocating the uniform there must be a reason for it. By definition the school uniform is a uniform worn by students primarily for a school or otherwise educational institution. They are common in primary and secondary schools in various countries and
All individuals struggle with discovering who they are and who they may want to be in the future. School environment, either negatively or positively, impacts the result of this greatly. Uniforms in the learning environment have become a highly debated subject all across the country. Although some individuals believe school uniforms have a positive affect, those people should understand the negatives because uniforms promote appearance over character, lower student’s self-esteem, and conflict with the right of expression.
A major reason that schools should have uniforms is because students will get along better. They wouldn’t compare each other based on whose wearing what. This is opposed to a school with no uniform some students will feel inferior to the one’s wearing brand name clothes. Also uniforms lower the chances of jealousy between the students. The students would feel more unified with each other. Further more school uniforms can alleviate school violence, because it will help kids with less money escape the teasing they would get if the school had no uniforms. Also uniforms will help differentiate students from gan...
Have you ever considered why students should wear a school uniform? For a long time, scholars have debated worldwide, whether students should wear a school uniform or not.
