Technology has been growing throughout the years, always changing and evolving in all new ways. It has become almost a second nature to us by now, to use technology on anything and everything. We use technology for the smallest things, such as looking up the recipe for your next meal, or the name of an actor, or just to check up on a friend. It seems to be that the more technology develops, the more addicted and the more dependent we become. If one were to analyze and really think about how many times we use technology a day, we will start to realize how much it has consumed us. Just think about how many times a day you see someone on their phone, or on a computer. You will start to realize how addicted we are. It’s so common for us to use and see people use technology, that we take it for granted and never think twice about it. However, is becoming this dependent on technology a bad thing? I feel as though we depend a lot on technology Technology, like everything, has its ups and downs, you know, the pros and the cons.Technology makes everything so much easier for everyone. We can travel long distances, talk to our loved ones, and even entertain us. Technology has also made things safer for us.There have been so many technological advances through recent history that were created to keep people safe and away from harm, like fire alarms and air bags in motor vehicles. Technology has also made things much faster for us, such as travel. Cars, Planes, and Boats help many people get to different places around the globe in shorter amounts of time, and the internet has also made communication around the world almost instantaneous. Like most things there are always some types of downsides. With advancements in techno... ... middle of paper ... ...this dependent and addicted to technology can be very bad for us due to how clueless and lost we would be if it all stopped working or if it disappeared. We need to understand the difference between what’s truly helping us and what’s really hurting us in the long run when it comes to technology. If you take some time off, maybe turn your cell phone off; I bet you you’re going to feel less stressed and a lot more relaxed. Take some time out of your day to get away from the madness of all those crazy computers and television sets. Instead of watching the X-Factor on TV, go outside and stroll your neighborhood. Instead of peeking at your phone every couple minutes, try to leave it alone for a bit. It’s always harder to quit something cold turkey, just limit yourself. Like all those experts say, you can always have a little bit of something, just in moderation.
Technology has advanced the standard of living for most people. However, it can be overused and create an addiction for some users. Two articles published in the New York Times, speak on this dependency on technology. One, “Technology’s Toll- Impatience and Forgetfulness”, by Tara Parker-Pope, explains the negative effects of technology and the addictive qualities it has. While, “Online but not Antisocial”, Janna Smith, explains technology is not as bad as people make it seem.
A dependence on technology will not create a utopian society. Relying on technology for everything can create disruption of people’s bonds and love towards family members, disruption in people’s emotions and feelings and disruption to people physically.
Technology, what is it? It’s usually something new, and better than the old idea. Technology started with cars, stoves, TV, radios, etc. Cars takes somebody from one place to another, faster than walking, running, or biking and one could go places without getting tired. Stoves allowed one to conveniently be able to turn on and off heat to a cooking utensil with less clean up. The biggest contributor to making our lives easier would be computers, which has come a long way since its introduction to the world. Also, computers have the ability to be improved more, and more in time. In general, technology started off by comforting our lives. Now, the rapid growth of technology has replaced the need for one’s own intellect.
Then again, I need to address whether individuals are ending up excessively becoming reliant on technology, making it impossible to arrange their regular day to day existence. For example, if my laptop broke I would feel absolutely lost. Not to mention, emails will go unread, papers and projects would vanish for good leaving no trace. We have come to a point in our society where steady contact to technology is nearly a
Whether technology is with us or hurting us, we still have to use it and it affects our lives daily. We need it to get a hold of someone. We need it to do our jobs. Most importantly, we need it to keep our lives away from harm. There are many ways to manipulate technology, but technology has more good to it than bad. There are those who use it for good, like investigators so they can figure out the real story. Then there are those who use it for bad, just like those who commit cyber bullying along with other minor and major things. We need technology regardless if people argue they like or not. There is no way to stop technology and keeping people from making it better. With the developments in technology, we may be able to enjoy all the pricey luxuries and still enjoy life at the same time.
Technology has become such a predominate part of the way the world functions. Society is so caught up in the advancements and possibilities that they do not realize there could be or are downsides to excessive amounts in our everyday lives until the effects were already irreversible. We have allowed ourselves to become intellectually lazy only because we think it is more efficient (k). Users sacrifice their physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing in order to be consistently connected to technology that is ultimately damaging the ability to connect on a real life basis.
Now kids, and adults, may abuse the uses of technology and their electronics a lot, but it keeps the world as we know it, the world as we know it. Without it, cancer and other diseases, viruses, and other epidemics would be plaguing the population around us without any warning or treatment. That is just a slight bit of the medical side alone, think about the cars, the planes, the trains, and other ways of transportation. They wouldn’t even be close to the way they are without technology. It didn’t necessarily make those ways of transportation happen, but it transformed them greatly. Now auto-driven or flown, GPS guided, and automatically braked, transportation is made simple, safer, and more efficient. Communication is probably the greatest child of technology. Without our instant messages, emails, or phonecalls our lives would be stuck in a horse and buggy. We would have to telegraph, ride, or write to the individual that we are trying to contact instead of instantly, and even hands freely, getting our information across to the receiver, whether that may be an emergency call, business email, or whatever, technology, again, makes our lives that much more bearable and stress free, in some
Having technology has saved many people and children lives by having a cell phone and interacting with their parents. Being able to video chat loved ones who's is at war or across the world wanting to say "hi" to their grandparents who hadn't seen you in a while. Having technology bring s a huge advantage when it comes to catching up on work in a place or school. It helps children who's mentally and physically challenge: struggling to learn, write, talk , or maybe read. Bringing the rising of learning percentage form the teacher to the students in the same classroom majoring in computer science, being able to get into space learning about our planets because we had the technology and interacted with each to make it possible. Many technological advances increase contact made a progressive increase in human live by creating opportunities in our path as humans. Jobs became more helpful when it came to your technology, calling or your boss calling you, letting you know there's a schedule meeting then you would know. Technology really made lives more together than apart from each other. Making more of technology would increase human contact
Are we really addicted to technology or are we benefiting from it in our everyday lives? Over the years, controversies have arisen over the use of technology, and we have not reached agreement on whether technology is hurting us or we are benefiting from it. Although Parker-Pope and Smith agree that technology must be a tool to bring people together, Parker-Pope sees technology as a barrier to communication while Smith sees technology as a vehicle to alternative ways of viewing the world that combined can lead to human greatness. Both Parker-Pope and Smith made me think more deeply about the role technology plays in our personal and collective identities, due to technology has created a conducive forum in which human interaction has been enable and easily facilitated, and the use and
Social networks, like Facebook or You Tube can keep someone updated with world events and even local events. It has become part of everyday life in which people can’t live without. But what lies beneath is the evil of how addictive technology can be. The above chart demonstrates that almost 60% of students use electronics more than two hours a day. This shows us that technology can be addictive. Jonathan Mandell’s article Are gadgets, and the Internet, actually addictive, recalls a time in April 2007 when BlackBerry users could not send or receive emails for 11 hours because of a glitch in the system. Many people reported this as a natural disaster (Mandell, 2007). People are relying on technology so much, that it is becoming a major problem in our society when it becomes temporary unavailable. Being able to plan your whole day on your smart phone and lock your front door to your house at the same time contributes to society laziness and dependency on technology. On the chart picture below I surveyed fellow ECPI Students on the question does technology make us lazy and or smatter and this was the results. From this pie chart it’s clearly shown that more than half of the students at ECPI agree that technology is making people lazy. Also the ratio of yes to no is about 6:1, certainly showing that the wrong effects of technology are starting to show up in our society. Choices people make about using their
Although there are negatives with us using technology, the positives overshadow them. Technology blesses us with live news coverage, helps us with everyday tasks and gives us quick reliable sources. Technology is a huge benefit on humanity as long as we limit our amount of time using it. Society needs to appreciate and use the technology we have without abusing it.
Some people may say that they don't depend on it because they are only obligated to use it for work and school. That is seventy five percent of your life. Others may say that we have too be dependent on it because we simply can not live without it. No body wants to admit that material things are the most important things in their lives. We are all addicted to technology. I would like to see people live a day with out technology. I bet everyone would go completely insane and start a rampage.
There are many manifest functions of modern technology that benefits our society today. Three ways that technology has improved our society is with online sales and marketing, crimes, and communication. Technology has allowed businesses to expand and gain more customers. A lot of today’s companies do a major part of their marketing through technology like commercials, websites, and social media. This helps them gain more customers and popularity. Many businesses also sell a lot of their products online through websites. This allows them to be able to get customers from more than one location. Another way modern technology has helped the people of today are those such as detectives. Crimes years ago that could not be solved due to lack of technology can now seek justice. The advancements in technology, such as DNA testing, has helped put many guilty people behind bars. Technology has allowed many ways for easier communication. People are able to communicate through social media, texting, calling, and so much more. Back in the past, people had to use ways such as telegraph that would take longer. Now, we are able to call people thousands of miles away and communicate a lot faster. Modern society is better than traditional society because we keep finding advancements. These advancements include technology improvements, cures and vaccines for sicknesses, and more jobs.
Technology is making our life easier than before, but are we getting too much dependent on it? Technology is getting improved by past decades. It has become a part and parcel in everyday life. Without it, people would have a lot of trouble to keep pace with the whole world. At the same time, todays new generations incredibly dependent on it. They do not want to use their brain as there are lots of search engines they can easily access and can find out what they want. Technology creates problems about pollution and global warming and at the same time people are using technology to reduce these problems. Overdependence on technology is harmful for humans’ existence because it creates addiction that makes people inactive, decrease job opportunities and causes physical or mental disorders that is a great threat for mans’ life.
Society has been impacted both negatively and positively by technology. As a result, every aspect of our lives has been influenced by technology. Hence, life is easier, yet it has taken away some of the enjoyment. For example, remember the days of less stress and more personal interaction, when there were no online messages, no emails, social media or cell phones. We have become excessively dependent on technology. As a result, we need to rely less on technology even though it has made learning fun, and business, daily tasks, work, travel, shopping, making new friends and staying in touch easier. In conclusion, technology has a lot of benefits, yet it could take over our lives and become our worst enemy if we aren't careful.
