Imagine a world where it was completely shameful to like the opposite sex. If someone found out about a heterosexual couple or just people playing around, they would get abused, bullied, attacked, just because of the people they choose to be with. The whole United States or maybe just a single state would be against them. They couldn’t go to church without getting judge by people who should be the most understanding, but because one man, who lived just over 2,000 years ago, wrote in a book that it’s a sin to love someone of the same sex. People live that live everyday of their lives, except opposite. The big question about same-sex marriage is if it should be legal or not, and why? The problem with same-sex marriage is that if the US allows it, we don’t know how the US would react. A big argument against same-sex marriage is that they shouldn’t be allowed to marry because they are not able to procreate. That problem has a simple answer(s) and its called adoption, or artificial insemination. So although same-sex couples cannot procreate, they can still create a good stable home just as well or even better than opposite sex couples.
Gay rights are a serious problem in the United States of America. The government has given Americans the permission to choose whether a man and a man or a woman and a woman can get married. Over half of Americans have denied the right for other people to have the privilege of being in love and taking that final step to commitment. All over the U.S. people have different opinions on who can get married and why they can or cannot. "Allowing children to be adopted by a person living in church unions would actually mean doing violence to these children"-Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. That quote...

...nnot reproduce so it would make them cherish the idea of a baby the same amount or even more than a couple who can simply reproduce. By letting the USCCB preach all over the United States it allows people the open their ears to all sides of the story reasons why people of the same sex cannot marry. It will always be perfectly fine for people to listen to all sides but when it comes down to voting for who can marry who, it shouldn’t be allowed by people who are not a part of the doing. The way the USCCB talks it makes it seem like if we allow same-sex couples to get married that there will be no more reproduction happening, but that isn’t the case; allowing same-sex couples to get married is just making more room for love in the world. We shouldn’t let people who don’t truly understand the meaning of love determine who can love who, when they know nothing about it.
Heterosexuals have enjoyed the right to marry throughout recorded history, though there have been restrictions placed over who could marry that have been overc...
...ets down to “value judgment” and how the LBG’s are being hypocritical in a way of advocating that value judgment about marriage is wrong. But yet, they insist that same sex unions might as well be considered marriages on a par with heterosexual marriages; LBG’s making a value judgment about marriages, both their own marriages and those of others. “Rather, they press their judgments on others while, at the same time, refusing to permit others to make judgments.” Bauman makes a very good point at the end of his last sentence in the article using “serves us and our offspring best” as a way to end the article. This opens minds and has you realizing that ‘offspring’ cannot be produced by a homosexual. They are incapable and therefore it could be considered unnatural stopping the natural breeding process, which leads into the next generation; creating the next generation.
Ask any American what values founded this country and you will get very similar responses: Liberty, Freedom, or justice. These values are instilled in each American and come as naturally to us as the air we breath, or do they? Just as women fought for suffrage, and African Americans in the civil rights movement, homosexuals battle for the right to marry. This issue is affecting Americans on several levels.
The issue of gay marriage needs little introduction as it is one of the most widely contended and discussed topics in the United States of America. While the issue is relatively recent one has to question why this is even an issue to begin with. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. Arguments come from both religious groups, as well as secular focused sources. Reasoning against gay marriage ranges from religious immorality, to the idea that giving gays the right to marry would support minoritarianism (giving minority special privileges and advantages in either a legislative or societal capacity). There are countless arguments besides those mentioned, few of which have any substantial grounds to stand on. Gay marriage causes no political or communal grief, except for those who strongly oppose it now. Even for those people gay people exist either way. Whether they are married or not will not change that and their lives will not be dramatically changed from it. Gay marriage has no valid reason to be outlawed and there are plenty of reasons to allow it.
... gay marriage should not be as controversial of a topic then it is. Even though there are religious thoughts about gay marriage and homosexuality, people are getting that information from books that were written millions of years ago and they are not even sure of who wrote them. Even though people are ultimately afraid of the unknown and change, both, which are included in legalizing gay marriage. I believe that people should brush up on their knowledge of homosexuality, gay marriage, and what gay marriage would do to our society before they make create an opinion about the matter; which could ultimately affect the opinion of people around them. I also believe that love is love no matter what way you think of it, we are all humans who just want the same rights for everyone. Imagine if you were in a gay persons shoes, would you think the same way about gay marriage?
Allowing same-sex marriages provides socio-economic equalization of benefits that traditional couples are granted when they enter into the civil union of marriage. The socio-economic rights of pension benefits, hospital visitation, child support, affordable housing etc... are given freely, and are expected when a couple is married. These basic resources for a healthy marriage are typically absent when same-sex marriages or civil unions are in question (Dinno & Whitney, 2013). Currently in the U.S., 17 states plus the District of Columbia allows same-sex couples to marry and four others allow domestic partnerships or civil unions (Same sex marriage map, 2014). The states that the same-sex couples are married in, are typically, the only states where their marriage rights are guaranteed. It is up to the gaining state’s laws whether the marriage is legal and ca...
The institution of marriage has traditionally been defined as between a man and a woman. In the Oct. 15, 1971 decision Baker v. Nelson, the Supreme Court of Minnesota found that "The institution of marriage as a union of man and woman, uniquely involving the procreation(reproduction) and rearing(raising) of children within a family, is as old as the book of Genesis.” The idea that same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue is very misleading to many because technically it is far from it. The unifying characteristics of the protected classes within the Civil Rights Act of 1964 include (1) a history of longstanding, widespread discrimination, (2) economic disadvantage, and (3) unchangeable characteristics... 'Sexual orientation' does not meet any of the three objective criteria shared by the historically protected civil rights categories although the opinion that homosexuality is choice rather than a born trait is heavily debated. In recent decades, marriage has been weakened by a liberal view that is more about adults’ desires than children’s needs. Allowing gay marriage would only further shift the purpose of marriage from producing and raising children to adult gratification. Traditional marriage is already threatened with high divorce rates (between 40% and 50%) and with 40.6% of babies being born to unmarried mothers in 2008 according to National Statistics and the preliminary data for births in 2008. Allowing same-sex couples to marry would further weaken the institution. Sweden began offering same-sex couples benefits in 1987, followed by Denmark in 1989 and Norway in 1993. According to a Feb. 29, 2004 report by Stanley Kurtz, PhD, from 1990 to 2000, Norway's out-of-wedlock birthrate rose from 39% to 50% and Sweden's rose fro...
There are a number of false assumptions the straight community has regarding same sex marriages. Marriage is a basic human right and an individual personal choice. The government should not interfere with same-sex couples who choose to marry and share fully and equally in the rights, responsibilities, and commitment of the institution of marriage. The real nature of marriage is not a relationship between a man and a woman but rather a binding commitment between two adults. Another false assumption regarding same sex marriages is that the institution of marriage is for procreation. If so, why are infertile individuals allowed to marry? Why are childless couples allowed to remain married? The false assumption that the institution of marriage ensures the continuation of the species is hard to visualize with the current population of the world. The notion of institution of marriage being threatened by same-sex marriages is an additional false assumption by the straight community. In the 1950?s miscegenation laws prevented interracial marriages between whites and blacks. A 1967 United States Supreme Court decision finally legalized mixed race marriages. Interracial marriages have not irreparably harmed the institution of marriage. The false assumption of marriage being between a man and a woman, for procreation, continuation of the species, and that the institution of marriage will be threatened by same sex marriages is unfounded.
Gay marriage has become the biggest controversy of the 21st century and has caused the biggest assumptions, quarrels, and typecast. Theories that are associated with gays show that they are very immoral, unable to shape and preserve lifelong relationships, and the relationships that are created are superficial and casual. (Bidstrup, 2009) In this great country of America we are taught that everyone must have equal rights and be treated equally; well Homosexuals aren’t allowed to without actions and consequences. Marriages have become one of the biggest issues that homosexuals are faced with and they aren’t getting the equal rights that heterosexuals are given. The fact the people aren't relaxed with the idea stems mainly from the fact that for many years, society has encouraged the idea that a marriage should involving two people of different sexual orientation. (Bidstrup, 2009) A same-sex partner is preposterous, mainly because of the objections raised above. Marriage is supposed to stand for an institution ...
Same-sex marriage or “gay” marriage is described as a relationship between two people of the same gender. Marriage should be between two people who love each other; it should have nothing to do with gender. In most states, married couples are treated differently than a non- married couple, which goes for gay couples as well. In some states, same-sex marriage is illegal. Those who don’t support same sex marriage, whether it be because of harbored hostility or their traditional views, are more accepting of a legislative decision over a judicial decision (Dry, p. 277-278). Same sex couples should have the same rights as straight couples. “The case for same sex marriage is stronger than the case against, largely because it obtains clear benefits
One cannot deny that one of the main justifications as to why gay marriage is presently unlawful is due to the religious understanding that homosexual individuals are sinners. The reason being is, when an individual violates the natural ethical order founded by God, that person sins and insults God. An individual who professes to follow the teachings of God must oppose to same sex marriage as it is considered unethical and immoral. In addition, gay marriage will consequently invade our right to freely exercise our religious freedoms. A pastor shouldn’t be obligated to marry a homosexual couple or a church shouldn’t be forced to be the site of a gay wedding. Legalizing same sex marriage would mean imposing the first amendment rights of our
... marriage is a controversial topic among today’s society. While the LGBT community fights for marriage equality, they feel inferior to those capable of being married. Same-sex marriage is not intended to harm heterosexual marriage or affect the function of society. Studies prove same-sex marriage would help the economy, as well as, government permitting, raise adoption rates. According to the First and Fourteenth Amendments; same-sex marriage is protected by the Constitution. Backing the Constitution are multiple marriage equality court cases. Same-sex marriage would end stigmatization of homosexuals and discrimination against them. There are over one thousand rights same-sex couples are denied of. Marriage equality and these civil rights would consider all men to be treated equal again. The future of marriage equality relies on the legalization of same-sex marriage.
Same-sex marriage is a broad and current controversy in the United States today. The movement to legalize same-sex marriage started in the 1970; however, it is still not legal in all fifty states yet (“Same-sex marriage in the United States”). Legalizing same-sex marriage should not be a debate. People should be able to marry who they love regardless of sexual orientation. Same-sex marriage should be legal because it is a human right, religion should not interfere with state laws, it does not adversely affect the heterosexual community in any way, and same-sex marriage can actually benefit our society.
The issue to legally allow same sex couples to marry has been extensively and increasingly debated in most countries because it holds much concerns based off moral and human rights. Looking at traditional marriage between a couple that is a man and women, has the same breakdown of issues ,concerns and joys as a sex same relationship would . Boths types of relationships has it 's difficulties and desire but the marriage between the man and women are protected and allow to partake in financial and health benefits under the government, on the other hand the same sex couples aren 't even allowed to participate legally in the union of marriage. Taking a look at legislation and some of the committees that support same sex marriage, and giving a opportunity for millions of homosexual Americans the right to legally engage in marriage in this country as the feel.
Some may argue they’re still capable of having children so they are still eligible for the right of marriage. . Are they deemed unfit for marriage since they cannot reproduce or do not want children? Per an article by the WSJ “Marriage, he further observed, was throughout history a child-centered social institution—a bond between a man and a woman forged primarily in the interest of procreation and child rearing. Legalizing same-sex marriage, he said, would intensify the current trend to center marriage on adult gratification rather than on the needs of children.” Adult gratification, so should people not feel gratification for marrying the person they love? Should they not feel enlightened? People get married because they want to spend the rest of their lives with the person they love. If children come from that then great. If not, who cares? Adoption is always an option. There are so many kids that need parents. Marriage is not just meant for reproduction. Everyone deserves to marry who they choose. Preposterous excuses like that have no place in todays society. This isn’t biblical times. A recent Pew analysis of 2008 census data showed that just over 40% of Americans consider children
