Reviewing my SmartMeasure Test scores I am surprised to know, my study strategy is logical. And according with the results, it also reports that visual, physical, social, and verbal are also a high percentage of my learning strengths. Solitary and aural are the lowest percentage, which mean they are a weakness. I need to work harder on studying longer for shorter periods of time. The reason I think studying longer but having many interruptions helps more is because you get a break in the material and you come back 10- 20 minutes later and test yourself. You still study but, the idea is to learn it not overwhelm yourself the night before. I have tried this in many occasions and it always seems to work. I need to get back into the game and think of other ways of studying now that I know my strengths and weaknesses in my strategies. I am open to try new strategies to study and grow my weaknesses to become strengths. One strategy that has almost never improved is aural. I could listen and catch important information but, what I cannot is remember anything else, sometimes I have to ...
Tests play a major role in a student’s academic career: they determine where the student goes to college, which AP classes the student will be able to take, and so on. Considering this information, it is vital to discover effective study methods that will enable students to retain the material longer and clearer. The article “Forget What You Know About Good Study Habits” by Benedict Carey presents the notion that efficacious studying must include diversity. Based upon years of scientific experiments, psychologists have been able to conclude that studying various material in various places and at spaced out intervals are better study habits than studying one subject in one sitting for a long period of consecutive time. The article is also centered
Another type of listening barrier that I have is differing speech rate and thought rate. My brain is fast at processing words and sometimes in moments I get bored in the conversation and I begin to daydream. This happened recently with a conversation with one of my classmates. I got so lost in a daydream that I did not know how to respond. Being a better listener takes time and dedication. Something that I learned from the textbook is that during a conversation summarizes their words sporadically throughout the conversation; it will help me to be focused in
During my last semester at college, I postponed thinking about preparing for my tests. As each test day came closer, I got worried and desperately started cramming. I drank enough coffee to keep the whole city awake and woke up thinking that I would get a low grade. Eventually, I realized that students who always earned A's on their tests were not just lucky, but they really studied hard all through the semester. There are different ways to prepare for a specific test, and each individual must perfect his or her own style. I have developed a process that involves five steps to prepare for a test.
Kimora reflected on successful test taking strategies such as marking the test date on a calendar, begin studying days ahead, make a study plan of what to study, use time master sheet to break down things to study in specific blocks of time, use index cards, quiz yourself before the test, get a good night's sleeps, eat a good breakfast before the test, and drink a glass of water to your brain is hydrated and has
The Smart Measure test shows that that I have a logical learning style. I learn better using pie charts, and just flat out fact. When numbers and figures get put out there it draws my attention straight to it. Shockingly, I did scores three way for Physical, Social, and Verbal learning. They ere all very close o my score in logical learning. Basically, I am capable of learning in all sorts of different ways. Wehn it comes to learning I like to use a variety of techniques to ensure that I have obtained the the material that was necessary.
In the memory activity I got 1 out of 3 correct, while reading I felt very rushed and by the time I was done reading it all I could barely even remember everything I just read. Dealing with a memory problem like this everyday would
Everyone has a different way of learning things; I like to think that I am a more visual learner. However, the smart measure assessment has brought to my attention that I may actually have multiple ways of learning. The assessment has actually informed me of a lot of my strengths in each section but the sections that caught my attention are Learning Styles, Reading Rate & Recall, Technical Competency, and Technical knowledge.
One of the skills that I can do best is listening, which I count as my strength because I know what I am doing and I am very conscious that I can ignore any hindrance. On the other hand, lack of self-confidence is my weakness. I find it difficult to do presentation in class or introduce myself to make new friends.
...igence. The second study strategy will be to continue the use of the above methods while interpreting my intrapersonal intelligence. To do this I will sets goals as to when my work needs to be completed and how much studying I will do each night. By doing this I will be reducing the amount of stress I will have from studying by not cramming the night before the test.
Personal learning styles are highly complex and unique to specific individuals. It is often difficult to pinpoint an exact learning style. Though there are different categories, we often fine tune them to our own abilities. By examining our traits and tendencies we create a clearer understanding of how we process and learn information. With careful review, I have developed a specific analysis of my learning characteristics, including an evaluation of skill levels. Based on what I have recently learned and know from experience, I have also devised a structured plan for improvement of time management and study skills.
In terms of my listening strengths, I do a good job at making and maintaining eye contact with people. Specifically, this helps me stay focused and listen to what the person speaking is saying. I do not become distracted with external factors and pay attention to the person and the conversation. I think that eye contact is important because it gives a non-verbal message that you are listening and are hearing what is being said. This listening skill occurs daily; whether it be in a meeting where I am introduced or talking to a client, in class listening to my professor, or at home with my family.
I seem to learn better when I constantly read over the material I am studying. This allows the material to constantly be running in my mind. I am a person who will read or hear something and it usually sticks with me. I really haven 't had to study for long periods of time, because I usually remember the topic of what were being tested on pretty easily. I have also learned that I am more of a hands on person. I can learn things very quickly by putting them into action. Somehow that makes it click in my mind and helps me learn it. Mainly the study habits I can improve on is procrastination. This is usually hurts me the most. I will wait
An important question to address when attempting to identify effective study strategies and their relationship with academic performance is, “What are study skills?” The term “study skills” can be defined as proficiency in identifying, organizing, memorizing, and using information in order to succeed academically (Proctor, Prevatt, Adams, Hurst, & Petscher, 2006). Activities identified as study skills include “time management, setting appropriate goals, selecting an appropriate study environment, employing appropriate note-taking strategies, concentrating, selecting main ideas, self-testing, organization, and managing anxiety,” (Proctor et al., 2006). When studying, college students employ a variety of these study strategies that they believe
In applying the skills to a case scenario, I found it difficult to focus and use my active listening skills. I do know that in an ideal situation, I will more than likely be one on one with my client and will generally conduct the interview in a quieter atmosphere, allowing me to focus better on what the client discloses. However, with continuous practice I believe I will be able to overcome becoming distracted by background noises.
