The customers are not connected with an online interface and this makes it difficult for the company to compete favorably on the information front. The manual system is therefore obsolete, slow and unprofitable to the company. Being user friendly, the IS analysts thought that user compliance would boost the usage of the product. Much to the IS analyst’s dismay, surveys concluded that the program had small differences with usage. This problem was due to the socio-economic factors within the company which caused the sales representatives chosen to operate the system to shun the system. These excuses were due to disincentives such a lack pay bonus or reward for using the system, and being obtrusive toward their responsibilities. As sales representatives, they made excuses such as the system being “dirty work” for the manufacturers. Behind the excuses, the process of using the system was sub optimized by the sales representative’s subprocess within the company which was optimized for efficiency. Unfortunately, the IS analysts in charge of the project were not in a position to make changes regarding who used their system. Communication issues between the creators of the product and the managers who employed the product caused this

For the inventory management of Seven-Eleven, it can have a higher responsiveness by making good use of its inventory. When the demand and supply mismatched, inventory would exist. To increase its responsiveness, it need to increase the inventory level. By a higher inventory level, the production cost will be lower due to the economies of scale. Besides, the product should be available at the time that the customer wants it. To improve the situation of mismatching supply and demand, the POS system introduced by Seven-Eleven in 1982 could help. In 2012, it became more advanced and it included “graphic order terminal”, “scanner terminal”, “store computer” and “POS register”. For example, “scanner terminal” can read the bar code, record the inventory and examine the inventory in stores. It can check the order placed previously and it truck drivers need not wait for the checking of delivery. Also, the product will be received at a suitable time. Done with the system and done apply the system in the business, I am going to evaluate the entire project. To know whether the system is useful or not, I asked the views of the users of the system. To know about the users views, I went to meet the two employees who managed the handle the selling report of the business three days after I applied the system to the business. I asked them whether the system is useful or not, hard to use or not, as well as their suggestion for the system. One of them said that the system is quite helpful and quite hard for the first time. The other employee said that the system made them more efficient since they did not need to waste their time too much to make the selling report, however the system is quite confusing for them. From these two users, I realized that my system might be useful for the business but it need to be simpler since the system is confusing for them. These positive and negative opinions from the users are an important input and suggestion for me to improve for the next project.
Computer technology has had a significant impact on retail stores. All but the smallest shops have replaced the old-fashioned cash register with a terminal linked to a computer system. The terminal may require that the clerk type in the code for the item; but more and more frequently the checkout counter include a bar-code scanner, a device that directly reads into the computer the UPC printed on each package.
