The Future of War
People look to the future; people want to see a better way of life with new technology and other advancements. War is always going to be part of the future. The U.S. Military has come up with a new weapon that would help save lives of soldiers and civilians, it is known as drones. A drone is an unmanned aircraft that can be controlled from a safe environment. Drones were first used to provide high quality surveillance on areas suspected of terrorism. The drones could do this because they are able to fly and hover over their targets for hours while transmitting information to the people on the ground. Drones accompany soldiers in war zones to provide them with important information they need to do a better job. The military currently uses a few different models of drones like the MQ-1 Predator which was the first model the military used for drone strikes. The second drone is called the MQ-9 Reaper; this drone is an upgraded version of the MQ-1 predator. Drones were introduced to a military application after the nine-eleven terror attack. I believe that drones would still have made a military role even if we didn’t get attacked by terrorist. The new technology has made major advancements that will make drone better weapons to fight the war on terror. Drones were outfitted to become the weapons on the “War on Terror”. Both Bush and Obama have signed off on drones to target leaders of terrorist networks. I believe that drones are vital to military use and the...
Controversy has plagued America’s presence in the Middle East and America’s usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) contributes vastly to this controversy. Their usefulness and ability to keep allied troops out of harm’s reach is hardly disputed. However, their presence in countries that are not at war with America, such as Pakistan and Yemen, is something contested. People that see the implications of drone use are paying special attention to the civilian casualty count, world perspective, and the legality of drone operations in non-combative states. The use of drone technology in the countries of Yemen and Pakistan are having negative consequences. In a broad spectrum, unconsented drone strikes are illegal according to the laws of armed conflict, unethical, and are imposing a moral obligation upon those who use them. These issues are all of great importance and need to be addressed. Their legality is also something of great importance and begins with abiding to the Laws of Armed Conflict.
In “All Kids Should Take Poverty 101”, Donna Beegle makes the argument for requiring a Poverty Awareness class to children in grades K-12. The goal is to diminish the cycle of poverty by teaching children the causes and effects on poverty. By teaching children young about poverty and inequality she says those in the middle class will learn empathy and those living in poverty will be empowered to, “understand and change their current context (343).” While Beegle makes a valid point in regards to teaching children empathy, I believe she focuses on the wrong age group, and relies too heavily on the middle class to be the driving force behind the elimination of poverty.
“Government’s targeted killing of three U.S. citizens in two drone strikes, both in Yemen, far from any armed conflict zone.” (“Targeted Killings”). Drones or unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is the technology that has taken war and fighting to a brand new level. The technology is believed to lower the use of troops and life loss in the wars that are happening today. Can that same technology be considered dangerous? Or are the side effects something that can simply be considered a small cost for something better? Drones demonstrate a growth in technological advances , and also the world. Although as brilliant this technology might be, it brings a threat to the people.
To become a CRNA, you must first receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing and attain the licensure of a registered nurse. You must also have at least one year of critical care experience, which is obtained in areas such as the emergency room or intensive care units. Once you have received licensure and critical care experience, you have to be accepted into an accredited anesthesia program with a typical duration of two years or longer. Once you successfully complete the program, you then take the national certification examination. To become specialized in specific patient populations, such as pediatrics or trauma, you would need to work at a specialty hospital. As of right now, there are no scholarly programs to become certified in subspecialties. There has been recent discussion focused on changing the crit...
The post 9/11 era in The United States defense policies have been one of proactive as compared to reactive. The United States has been looking at methods to gather intelligence on our enemy while ensuring the safety of our troops. The drone has been the answer to the search because the drone is capable of ensuring the U.S. life, forced projection of power over our enemies, and Strategic stealth tactical striking.
...d attributes listed in this paper described the qualities which best enable future strategic leaders to be successful in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment. Also addressed was the need to cultivate future strategic leaders; this method conflicts with traditional methods of placing individuals in strategic positions without utilizing a vetting process. Therefore, it should be concluded that strategic leaders should be developed and identified through experience and training and lastly channeled through a tailored education process. It is also important to note, that they need to know where they're going, (vision) they need to actively communicate (communication skills) this to both their subordinates and especially to those outside the bounds of their organizational structure all while having the fortitude to see thing through (persistence).
The leadership effectiveness depends upon the leadership style that is most compatible with the motivational need of the followers (Maslow, 1954).Strategic leadership involves developing strategies and empowering people to put those strategies to work throughout the organization. This includes knowing the firm’s strategic direction, aligning the strategy with the firms culture, communicating and modeling high ethical standards, and when necessary initiating changes. The link between strategy formulation and strategy execution is described as effective strategic leadership. And the exertion of effective strategic leadership isn’t always easy. Leaders have leadership styles that are distinctive of themselves. A style is described as consistent
With all of the different specialties in healthcare, some get overlooked or may be under the radar. An uncommon and often disregarded career choice in healthcare is that of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or a Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice. Although not many people know about these healthcare careers, they play a vital role within the healthcare team. This field is growing rapidly and the likelihood of coming into contact with a nurse anesthetist during a hospital stay is on the rise. Knowing the history, education, responsibilities, and career outlook for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or a Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice can aide in understanding their very specific role in the care of patients.
According to an anonymous CRNA on citytowninfo.com, the nurse anesthetist’s job during the surgery is to closely monitor the patient’s vital signs, temperature, breathing, IV fluids, blood loss, and position. When the operation is finished, the CRNA wakes the patient and takes them to the recovery room. The nurse anesthetist then starts another procedure, following the same steps until all operations for the day are complete.
There are different traits associated with leaderships; many researchers have come to the conclusion that leaders will have certain attribute that will make them unique. Stogdill’s on his several surveys came up with 10 positive traits of leadership Northhouse (2013, p.21). After several researches, a list of traits that are central to leadership qualities are the self-confidence of a leader, how intelligent he or she is, how determined they are to achieve to their personal/organisational goal, how much integrity they have and how sociable are they Northhouse (2013, p.23). This is not to say that these are the only traits that are identified with a leader.
It is very important that a patient is comfortable and can trust the nurse anesthetist before going under anesthesia. On the micro level, nurse anesthetists interact with patients and their families. There are face to face discussions between them pre and post operatively. It is pertinent that the nurse anesthetist is outgoing and easy to talk to so that the patient is not uncomfortable before going into surgery (Nurse Anesthetists). Some important symbols that nurse anesthetists represent are comfort, health, and trust. If a patient is uncomfortable or experiencing anxiety, it could result in an increased heart rate, an increase in blood pressure, and other health complications. Consequently, it is very important that nurse anesthetists come in with a positive attitude. The symbol of health is due to the life of that patient being in their hands. It is up to the nurse anesthetist to evaluate the patient at all times to ensure there is no harm or complications that result from the procedure. Trust is also an important symbol because a patient has to be able have confidence and trust that the nurse anesthetist treating them is experienced, knowledgeable, and competent in providing their care and performing all of their duties. If a patient does not trust the nurse anesthetist, it could result in the procedure having to be postponed in order to find another nurse
Strategic leadership is a leader’s ability to understand the complexities of both the organization and its environment and to lead change in the organization so as to enhance its competitiveness. To be an effective strategic leader, you need to have thorough and complete understanding of its history, culture and positives and negatives. A good
One of the reasons the government is using drones instead of other methods, is because they are cheap. The government prefers to use these cheaper machines in war, traumatizing people all around the world, not just in the attacked areas, scaring children to the point where they do not want to leave the house in fear, rather than using other methods of war. Other people believe these drones will save the lives of innocent people and civilians, as stated in source A “A drone strike can kill a person in one room of a house and spare the lives of people in other rooms. Their precision means there's less of a chance of innocent civilians being killed.” This is not all true though, even though these machines are really accurate, many civilians and innocent people have been killed by drones, for example, “A new report from British human rights group Reprieve suggests that, based on available evidence, as many as 1,147 people in Yemen and Pakistan, including children, were killed in the U.S. drone strikes…” (Source I) Source K also states that “According to a meta-study of drone strikes, between 8 to 17% of all people killed in drone strikes are civilians.” As one can see from this information, drones are not as good as people believe they are, they can be worse than other methods of
At first, I was uncomfortable being around people with disabilities because I was still so unexperienced. I am still a little uncomfortable, not for people with disabilities, but myself. I grew up with having social anxiety and I am always scared that I will do something wrong or say something wrong. This is something that I am trying to work on, that I can come out of my shell and be more confident, maybe then, I can feel more comfortable and have more confidence when I am with people who have a
Another aspect of leadership includes leadership traits such as being influential and inspirational. There also different contexts of leadership, e.g, leading oneself, leading other individuals, leading groups, leading organizations. Some traits that are often associated with being an effective leader include a measure of intelligence, high energy, self confidence, dominance, and a need for achievement. An effective, charismatic leader must lead by example. That leader must be able to know what is going on, the job or task that is being accomplished, and be able to lead the group into performing the task at hand successfully.
